Subject: Lyr Add: THE PEOPLE OF WEST CORK AND KERRY From: MartinRyan Date: 19 Apr 11 - 11:25 AM Found on THIS SITE The People of West Cork and Kerry It seems to me the people of West Cork and Kerry They seem to understand the ways of my soul They seem to recognise the healing ways of a young lad Born into pain for the song and to roam And now though still not old, I live alone in the garden The pen it is slow but my heart is at rest And when I see the world now, I see a world without turmoil And all things I see now, I look for the best Chorus I know all the towns and I know all the places I have kissed your lips and I have held your hand Been all around the world but have not found such graces For the people of West Cork and Kerry were grand But when I was a young lad, the world was heavy on me You gave me plain talk, and you made me feel blessed You gave me the magic of all that went before me When I needed to lay low, you gave me the nest Chorus And now though still not old, I live alone in the garden The pen it is slow but my heart is at rest You gave me the magic of all that went before me When I needed to lay low, you gave me the nest Chorus Regards |
Subject: RE: Origins: Jimmy MacCarthy - People of West Cork &K From: TheContender91 Date: 29 Mar 10 - 05:12 PM Thanks I have heard the song by Tommy O' Sullivan and Sean Keane but I know that Jimmy's version is out there somewhere and I will find a copy. In the meantime I heard it during the SinE interview this year so they might be able to play it again. I will text them in and request it next time I'm listening. |
Subject: RE: Origins: Jimmy MacCarthy - People of West Cork From: Bonnie Shaljean Date: 29 Mar 10 - 03:16 PM Also googled this up, but it's only a copy/paste from a web page so I can't vouch for the info: "The People of West Cork and Kerry was retitled From West Cork to Derry, with revised lyrics, on Seán Keane's album The Man That I Am (Grapevine GRACD 276, 2000)." |
Subject: RE: Origins: Jimmy MacCarthy - People of West Cork From: Bonnie Shaljean Date: 29 Mar 10 - 02:57 PM It's on the album Gleanntán by the group Sliabh Notes [pronounced "sleeve"], sung beautifully by Tommy O'Sullivan. Review here: http://www.irishmusicreview.com/slIABH%20NOTES.htm |
Subject: Origins: Jimmy MacCarthy - People of West Cork &K From: TheContender91 Date: 29 Mar 10 - 07:58 AM Hi all I know this is a long shot but I am looking for a rare Jimmy MacCarthy song. The song is called "The People of West Cork & Kerry" and was released as a one-off single about 10 years ago (2000 A.D.). Record company was Ride On Records and it has The Sky Road as a B-Side. I was wondering does anyone know where I might be able to source a copy of this record. Also if anyone does know about the song I would be interested to hear when it was written and who it has been covered by. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Ta TheContender91 |
