It depends on how knowledgeable your local guy is. I am in the UK so I don't know where St. John is or how remote it is.

You could try emailing photos to a good dealer but they would have to make a hands on assessment before committing themselves.

thanks Seayaker.

That's the info I have found from googling. Unfortunately there are no good fiddle/violin dealers here in Saint John. There is fellow in town that does restorations ... hopefully he can shed some light on this.

A Google round the 'net sugests that it's from the Mirecourt School from N.E. France, Lorraine area 1900-1930s. That could be a pretty fine fiddle that you have there. Try a bit more 'net research or take it along to a good dealer for an appraisal.

I should it add it's in quite good condition, plays wonderfully even with the strings that have not been changed in over 20 some years. I may have to change the 'G' peg.

Someone has graciously given me a Laberte-Magnie violin. Apparently it was her late father's and she has no knowledge of the age or model.

Is anyone familiar or have knowledge on these instruments.

appreciate any input.

thanks,
biLL
