Subject: RE: Laberte-Magnie violins From: Seayaker Date: 30 Mar 10 - 04:23 AM It depends on how knowledgeable your local guy is. I am in the UK so I don't know where St. John is or how remote it is. You could try emailing photos to a good dealer but they would have to make a hands on assessment before committing themselves. |
Subject: RE: Laberte-Magnie violins From: GUEST,number 6 Date: 29 Mar 10 - 11:11 PM thanks Seayaker. That's the info I have found from googling. Unfortunately there are no good fiddle/violin dealers here in Saint John. There is fellow in town that does restorations ... hopefully he can shed some light on this. biLL |
Subject: RE: Laberte-Magnie violins From: Seayaker Date: 29 Mar 10 - 06:55 PM A Google round the 'net sugests that it's from the Mirecourt School from N.E. France, Lorraine area 1900-1930s. That could be a pretty fine fiddle that you have there. Try a bit more 'net research or take it along to a good dealer for an appraisal. |
Subject: RE: Laberte-Magnie violins From: GUEST,number 6 Date: 29 Mar 10 - 12:43 PM I should it add it's in quite good condition, plays wonderfully even with the strings that have not been changed in over 20 some years. I may have to change the 'G' peg. |
