There's no reason why you can't create a sister thread for female singer/songwriters as it's a different topic. I'll sort the other thing.

CS -   I need to PM you about this thread which has sidelined the idea I posted in your other current female folk thread.

Could you please ask a mod to help you get your identity back?

A quick request to posters to this thread before it turns into a thread of lists!

It'd be so much more interesting if you'd offer *examples* of these women's singing if possible, but at the least a description or reason as to why you dig them?

Give me time, I'll think of more.

delightfully funky Devon Sproule

She is kicky and fun in this song. Performed on Jools Holland and at Cambridge Folk festival.

Haunting Haruko

Love how sounds of her activities and outdoors punctuate this song. Gives it that authentic ring, and echoes sounds that would be heard when trad songs were sung to the work being done.

June Tabor, Frankie Armstrong,Maddy Prior, Norma Waterson, Eliza Carthy, Sandy Denny, Joan Baez..there are a lot more but these are a few of the best, and oh yes, Delores Keane.

Couldn't fit thread title in stupid titchy box! Thought it was about time we had a thread celebrating female voices of distinction?

Characterful and Individualistic Female Voices in Folk Please.

Examples and YouTubes if possible, plus why you think they should be on a thread like this?
