I have a mid-1950s Davy Crockett toy "guitar" (actually tenor mandolin) that I'm thinking of doing a little repair/restoration on. I just wondered if anyone out there has one of these and has ever tried repairing/playing it? It's a toy (or was) but it seems like it could be a fun "travel " instrument if I could fix it up. Or it could make a nice pattern to start from scratch with. It has a bell-shaped body. Front and back ate apparently plywood while sides are some sort of manmade material. The neck is wood and has a thin metal fretboard. So I'm not really expecting dulcet tones. The tuning pegs are the friction sort. Any thoughts, people? For reference, someone has one up on eBay right now at $99.00 fairly complete with original box.

Sorry about that...I meant uke, not mandolin. That'll teach me to preview my posts. Tenor uke.
