Hi This is an oldie from the 60's that I barely remember. It was recorded around 1966. Does anybody know anything about this song?

"Tg4 Can't Trust A Friend lyrics"

Can't trust a friend
Can't trust a friend
Can't trust a friend, thought that she was my homie

Hello?

[ Verse 1 ]

I remember back way in the day (yep)
We used to share most anything (we did)
We were so close, inseperable (uh huh)
The secrets we shared, nobody knew (what?)
Why would she do this to me (i don't know)
Can you believe she told my man on me (what?)
Suposed to be my friend, not enemy
(She played you out like that)

[ Chorus ]

Can't trust a friend
Thought that she was my homie
Never think that she would betray me
She's the one who's got me in this mess I'm in
Goes to show you can't trust a friend (trust a friend)
Thought that she was my homie
Never think that she would betray me
She told my man that I was cheatin on him
Goes to show you can't trust a friend (hello)

[ Verse 2 ]

Late night talkin on the phone (ok)
She made me feel so comfortable (right)
Pretending all the time that I was safe
But thats was a part of the scheme she played (right)
Wanted me to mess up with my man (mess up with my man?)
I was thinkin she was down with me (she wasn't down)
Supossed to be my friend, not enemy
(she busted you out like dat, wait a minute)

[ Chrous ]

Can't trust a friend (trust a friend)
Thought that she was my homie (my homie)
Never think that she would betray me
She's the one who's got me in this mess I'm in (shes the one thats got me in this mess im in)
Goes to show you can't trust a friend (oh no no no no)
Thought that she was my homie (my homie)
Never think that she would betray me
She told my man that I was cheatin on him
Goes to show you can't trust a friend

[ Needa-S's rap ]

You best turn off oprah
Put the ice cream down
Tell her I'm outside your house
I'm bout to bounce there now
Watch the dip on ya block and make a gangsta scene
Hop out tha car face fulla vasaline
Friends they smile in your face
Then throw dagger when turn
Stab you in the back, face ignorant snake (back stabber)
Bitches can be hatin, 2 facing
On my man she was waiting
So let me handle this situation

[ Chorus ]

Can't trust a friend (trust a friend)
Thought that she was my homie (my homie)
Never think that she would betray me (betray me)
She's the one who's got me in this mess I'm in (all this mess i'm in, whooaaaa)
Thought that she was my homie
Never think that she would betray me (got me in this mess i'm in)
She told my man that I was cheatin on him
Goes to show you can't trust a friend (trust a friend)

Thought that she was my homie (my homie)
Never think that she would betray me
She's the one who's got me in this mess I'm in (She's the one who's got me in this mess I'm in)
Goes to show you can't trust a friend

This one may be older...

Joan Jett and the Blackhearts
Oh woe is me Lyrics:
(Joan Jett)

What happened to my heroes
They seemed to disappear
The idols keep on singin'
But they don't sound sincere
Oh woe is me, oh woe is me

I don't got no money
All I got's a name
The future's lookin' hazy
But who can I blame
Oh woe is me, oh woe is me

Woe is me, woe is me
Is me me me me me

What happened to the parties
I thought they'd never end
I lost my only lover
Proves you can't trust a friend
Oh woe is me, oh woe is me
Oh woe is me, oh woe is me, yeah

There's a "girl group" song by Delores Edgin from the 1960s -

Here's the chorus:
You can't trust a friend with your lover,
You mustn't ever leave him alone, yeah-
You can't trust a friend with your lovin' man
If you're fool enough to try it, you'll be left all alone.

Is that it?

-Joe-

Thank you all for your input.

Joe Offer found the song I was thinking about. My older sisters had a compilation album with this song on it. Some of the other songs were "Husbands and Wives" by Roger Miller, "You Beat Me to the Punch" by Maty Wells and a version of the "Batman" theme (probably the Markettes).

Thanks again to everybody.

YOU CAN'T TRUST A FRIEND
As sung by Gail Majors on "The Spar Records Story: Nashville's Great Unsung Indie Label" (2011)

CHORUS: You can't trust a friend with your lover.
You mustn't ever leave them alone.
Yeah, you can't trust a friend with your lovin' man.
If you're fool enough to try it, you'll be left alone.

You had a lover who was good to you,
Never gave you sorrow, never made you blue.
You also had a friend that you knew so well.
It's a real sad story and it's hard to tell.

CHORUS

I should 'a' known better but I took the chance
And left them all alone at the high-school dance.
The next time I noticed, they were out o' sight,
Lovin' in the corner to their hearts' delight.

CHORUS TWICE

Nicely done and all too true.

And just because you were that friend in question doesn't mean that you can trust your new best girl to your other friend in turn...

Cheerily,
Charley Noble
