Bit of a long shot, this one...

A friend of mine, now in his seventies, has a pair of Sennheiser HD414 headphones.

Unfortunately, the capsule on one side has gone open circuit, and Sennheiser UK no longer stock spares. Searches on the net suggest that, whilst the foam earpads are still readily available, the capsules are not.

If anyone has a pair they no longer use, even if only one side is working, I'd be happy to buy them, as George is like a lost soul without his favourite cans!

To save anyone asking, the left and right capsules are identical and interchangeable, and no, it's not the cable...

Even if the capsule could be dismantled without damage (which I doubt), I think the voice coil itself is probably the problem, and repairing it wouldn't be viable.

Fingers crossed!

I used to have a pair that disintegrated.
I'd have to search the shed to see if they are still there.
I may be some time......

OOooo! That would be good!

Erm... if you're not out by the end of the month, I'll send Mary some flowers...!

George's foam earpads went horrid, and we replaced them only a couple of years ago. The old ones were grey, but the new ones are bright yellow! Moderately expensive, as I recall - but genuine Sennheiser.

A pity we didn't think of this a week ago...!!

I'm sure I've got a couple of old pairs somewhere too! Haven't seen them in years though!
Like Anahata, I'll search the shed. I might be sometime too!
(Pretty sure that the earpads are shot though!!)
Ralphie (On a mission!!)

They were bloody good cans. BBC standard!
Your friend George has good taste!

Do you need the 2000 Ohms (from the 1968 grey model) or the 600 Ohms (from the 1980's black ones)? I think I still got one of them each.

"Moderately expensive, as I recall"

Do you perchance recall the amount? I shudder at the idea of paying $30 for 57 cents worth of foam!

Hello,
To the person offering the spare capsule, I have a late model pair & would love to buy a working replacement capsule from you.

Please email vactrolhead (at) yahoo (dot) com

Many thanks,

Justin.

Bernard, did you ever resolve your headphone issue?
I have the exact same problem with the same pair, only I have two headphones, one is a HD414 and the second is a JVC pair, both are faulty
and have been told by Sennheiser that the 2k driver unit I need are obsolete.
so I am trying to make one working one out of the bits of the two headphones, all I need is to swap your faulty HD414 driver with my working one, a straight swap!!
what do you say?
(p.s. it MUST be the black HD414 and not the grey one)

Mick
