Subject: Hello Out There
From: Hilly Billy

What happened?

This used to be one of the most happening places on the Folk Net ....

Now it is dryer than my uncle Moore's whore...

I think you all need some good old mountain dew. Loosen up a little...get into the swing.....

This place is deadsville.

Ah shucks....I'm so sorry that your first post here at the 'Cat, so like others from members now past, is such a downer. We've obviously been missing someone of your encyclopedic knowledge of all things folk, your intelligence and insight into the human condition, your light and bon vivant sense of humor, and your rapier like wit. I would implore you to forgive our dullness and take your star quality attributes to a website more appreciative of such a stunning and sensational personality as yourself. Perhaps HERE or HERE.

Best Luck On Wondrous More Enjoyment

Spaw, you're just plain dangerous. You should have dropped by the Neil Young place on your way back from Niagara Falls (so it's a bit out of the way--so what?)(I managed to reach the Back button before the dance started, Praise the Lord). --seed

In the short while that I've been coming to the cafe often, one of the characters I have grown to appreciate is "the 'spaw". Your post to the curmudgeon was indeed a thing of beauty. Thanks! Sweet subtlety is thy name.

Oh dog-gone it! Everytime someone in a "stirring" mood posts, they never hang around for our witty rejoiners. But I don't care, I've got mine ready...Now take THIS HillyBilly:
Your Mother wears army boots! Oh hell, I just remembered I think Jeri DOES (or did) wear army boots! Well Kick his little hillbilly butt for us Jer.

Rick (who will try to be more interesting in the future)

Most things said about 'Spaw's posting would be faint praise, so I'll just say "Well Done!" and run it through a 5,000 -watt amp with individual channel boosters.

Good Time Charlie The Danny O'Keefe Home Page www.peakedearly.com

If he's alive, I'll betcha he's still getting alot of requests for Good Time Charley . I had the first, self-titled, album once upon a time, but can hardly remember a track on it other than Charley. I thought he had more talent and a better voice than Jimmy Buffett, who emerged about the same time, but Danny has gone the Way of the Wandering Buffalo while Jimmy lives the High Life in Aspen. Go figure.

Did Danny O'keefe write;

"Baby, baby, why you been gone so long, Tell me baby, why you been gone so long.

The wolf's scratchin' at my door,

I can hear that lonesome wind blow,

Tell me baby, why you been gone so long?"

Dear Rick, the correct term is 'combat boots.' I never in my life wore 'Army boots' - the ones with the little 'L' and 'R' embossed on the soles, and directions inside reading something like "Socks will be donned prior to donning boots. The boot marked 'L' will be donned over the foot on the side of the body opposite from the side on which the saluting hand is located. The boot will then be laced properly. For lacing and bow-tying procedures, see Army Manual 35-1007/B43."

Jeri, if only Heather had your footwear acumen! She's been limping around the last two days from feet blisters, incurred while tending to her gigantic rock garden.(about 10 square feet) The box in which her "Duckboots" came specifically ordered her to don "a pair of heavy socks" under their product. She ignored the instructions and now walks like Walter Brennan in the "Real Mcoys". If she'd only spent a year in the Scottish Army things like this wouldn't happen!
Rick(who knows enough to wear socks)

Dear Hilly, I know you are so busy being creative and wet and all that - makin that 'shine' under a rock in Arkansaw in a cave under a mountain in 99% humidity on a wet rainy stormy day with the temperature off the scale 110deg - oh and as usual with yer musical buddies - but I need just one little thing, how many toes do you have? Now there is no need to call granpa, you should not disturb him from his lifelong quest for the 'purfec' fiddle lick (been scratching at that since as long as I can remember and I have a long memory) you could take off your boots but do tell yer pals first, we do not need another case of gas intoxicated banjer players runnin round looking for a convenience store that is actually open so they can call an EMT crew and the whole mountain talking - tut tut tut. Try really hard (no do not press your nose agin the wall)to remember what yer ole Uncle Moore said bout daily cleansing of the body. Please do get back to me soon. So dry I am cracking up. Yours dear neighbor and bhuddie Bubba
