Subject: Lyr Add: MOLLY KERSHAW (Bernard Wrigley)
From: GUEST,Chris

MOLLY KERSHAW (Bernard Wrigley)

I met a young lady last weekend
Her face looked familiar to me
I started to think on mi past life
When it suddenly tumbled to me
I remembered that face from mi childhood
The teaser from Primary Three
I see now you're dressed like a film star
But you'll still be young Molly to me

CHORUS:
Don't put on an act Molly Kershaw
No need for your nose in the air
No need for your airs and your graces
I know you from Jubilee Square

You used to be our ugly duckling
But now you look more like a queen
You know now which side your bread's buttered
I bet you don't use margarine
I remember a time Molly Kershaw
When you were only a lass
Hopscotch and Pig In The Middle
And we did things for fun not for cash

CHORUS:

In Jubilee Square you are famous
Remembered by all of the cast
The good times you gave them still linger
Their heads turn as you're walking past
They say you're a Director's Mistress
Well happen that's just as may be
But one thing I know Lady Kershaw
You'll still be young Molly to me

CHORUS:

No it doesn't... never trust t'internet!

Bernard definitely wrote it, but I think the writer of the article got mixed up with Mary Kershaw (Harvey Kershaw's wife) who sang 'Nobbut a Cockstride Away' on Owdham Edge...

The search continues. I could always email Bernard, I suppose - we were in the same year at school!

Ah yes... the song dates back to 1970 when Bernard recorded it on Topic's 'Owdham Edge', the sequel to Deep Lancashire - recorded by the legendary Bill Leader.

A CD is available, called 'Deep Lancashire', but it has selected tracks from Deep Lancashire and Owdham Edge. Notably it is mostly Harry Boardman's tracks which have been omitted...

Molly Kershaw was written by Bernard Wrigley (the Bolton Bullfrog). He was briefly a member of 5PP a few years ago.

I'll see if I can dig the words out, but it may be some time...!!
