Subject: Down at Old Blaxhall Ship From: Young Buchan Date: 10 Apr 10 - 07:56 AM 8 o'clock tonight on Radio 4 therer is a programme on George Ewart Evans. Much of his recording was in Blaxhall - mecca of Suffolk folk singing, and some of his informants were from singing families there. No guarantee of any singing, but should be interesting. |

Subject: RE: Down at Old Blaxhall Ship From: Fred McCormick Date: 10 Apr 10 - 02:10 PM I posted a message about this the other day. The programme is called Ask the Fellows Who Cut The Hay, named after one of George's books. Unfortunately, the one criticism I'd make of his otherwise invaluable work is that he ignored the song and music traditions completely. This despite the fact that I recall the Ling family getting mentioned quite a lot, and the Ship Inn. So, no, I don't think there'll be any singing, unless the producer mixes a bit in. |
