Subject: RE: Search Is Fixed From: The Fooles Troupe Date: 15 Apr 10 - 09:23 PM Just a thought... If the Search is 'Fixed' ... How do we trust the results? :-P I'll get me hat.... |
Subject: RE: Search Is Fixed From: Joe Offer Date: 15 Apr 10 - 03:40 AM Hi, Peter - They ARE used in the thread, but not as a single phrase. Mudcat Search is set to look for phrases as typed in the query. In Google, a search for four works will bring up anything that all of those words, wherever they are in a document. To search for an exact phrase in Google, you have to put the phrase in quotes - you don't have to do that in Mudcat search. -Joe- |
Subject: RE: Search Is Fixed From: GUEST,Peter Laban Date: 15 Apr 10 - 03:31 AM Joe, the words are used in the actual thread as well as the title. It's no big deal but I suppose it's a little flaw that does occur and worth to keep in mind |
Subject: RE: Search Is Fixed From: Joe Offer Date: 15 Apr 10 - 02:34 AM Max, can you verify this? I think the SuperSearch searches only the text of messages, and not the titles. There are thread and message titles with the term Seamus Ennis Appreciation Society contained in them, but not messages with that exact term until just now. Am I right, Max? -Joe- |
Subject: RE: Search Is Fixed From: Sorcha Date: 14 Apr 10 - 09:01 PM Thank you Max. |
Subject: RE: Search Is Fixed From: Max Date: 14 Apr 10 - 08:40 PM OK, Sorcha. Happy now. I'm replacing the feature all-together so a volunteer won't be necessary. Users will manage there own information and privacy. It is not prudent to do any other way. It creates too much admin work and liability. And the auction is in action now too. |
Subject: RE: Search Is Fixed From: Sorcha Date: 14 Apr 10 - 08:22 PM Sorry, the 'mouse hover' does not work for me. If I click on the blank bar, it depends on just WHERE I click. There are NO hover indicators, I just have to move the mouse and click at will. Yes, it's all still there, but NOT easy to find. Hop to it Emperor Max, since no one else is 'allowed' to help. The Offers have been made. (no, not by me….but Max knows who) |

Subject: RE: Search Is Fixed From: GUEST,Peter Laban Date: 14 Apr 10 - 06:29 AM Maybe casting a wider net is the answer. |
Subject: RE: Search Is Fixed From: catspaw49 Date: 14 Apr 10 - 05:53 AM This thread? I just Power Searched on Seamus Ennis and got this one immediately. Spaw |
Subject: RE: Search Is Fixed From: GUEST,Peter Laban Date: 14 Apr 10 - 05:09 AM Sorry Max, only just saw your post. In fairness, I just tried that search again and this thread comes up now but not the thread with the title I was looking for. It's no big deal, I knew it was there and I got to it. |
Subject: RE: Search Is Fixed From: GUEST,Peter Laban Date: 14 Apr 10 - 03:53 AM Actually I posted a message on that thread that has the words Seamus Ennis and Appreciation Society in it although not in one un-interrupted phrase. Maybe it's just one of those things. It is however one of the searches I have used at intervals to post to that particular thread and always had to resort to Google to actually find it. Makes you wonder though how many threads don't come up. |
Subject: RE: Search Is Fixed From: Joe Offer Date: 14 Apr 10 - 01:49 AM Hmmm. I searched for Seamus Ennis Appreciation Society and didn't come up with the thread with that title. I don't think that particular phrase is used in any of the messages in the thread, so it may be that SuperSearch is programmed just to search message texts. It comes right up with the filter and the Old Advanced Forum Search, but not with SuperSearch. -Joe- |
Subject: RE: Search Is Fixed From: Sorcha Date: 13 Apr 10 - 08:53 PM And thank YOU too, Max! LOL. I do but try. Seriously, I'm glad you got search fixed. But NEVER expect ME to be 'sweetness and light'. I call it like I see it. It does what it says on the tin. And I KNOW you have a life, unlike some others on here. Love to the family, and LUCK with the Life. |
Subject: RE: Search Is Fixed From: Rowan Date: 13 Apr 10 - 08:34 PM Thanks also for the link to the tutorial, Max. Although I had some notions about the Advanced search routines, I'd not seen the in-depth stuff you have in the tute. Perhaps it could be listed and hot-linked in the "Quick Links" list at the top of the Menu page. Cheers, Rowan |
Subject: RE: Search Is Fixed From: Melissa Date: 13 Apr 10 - 08:24 PM Thank you, Max |
Subject: RE: Search Is Fixed From: Max Date: 13 Apr 10 - 06:06 PM By the way, if you took a moment to read this search tutorial, you'd be well served. I recommend the advanced search for most cases. It's very powerful. |
Subject: RE: Search Is Fixed From: Max Date: 13 Apr 10 - 05:52 PM Peter, just ran your search and it popped up in record speed. May I humbly suggest user error? Visitor, not sure what you are doing either. I'm getting no errors. What am I missing here? Reminds me of an interview of a KKK grand master. The interview said "Let's say you win and all people of color are eradicated from this world. What will you do then?" The grand master replied "Move on to eye color." When no errors remain, what will you do then? |

Subject: RE: Search Is Fixed From: GUEST,Peter Laban Date: 13 Apr 10 - 04:08 PM Is it? Really? I just tried to bring up The Seamus Ennis Appreciation Society thread and could only do so through Google. Mudcat did bring up another 'Is search broken/' thread where I mentioned being unable to bring up the same thread but not the thread itself. And yes I tried several times and several word combinations from the thread title. |
Subject: RE: Search Is Fixed From: GUEST,Visitor Date: 13 Apr 10 - 03:43 PM Fixed...except that when you click on any of the search results you get a 'page not found' message. |
Subject: RE: Search Is Fixed From: Joe Offer Date: 13 Apr 10 - 01:58 AM Hmmmm. Says you have to enable your camera when going to chatroulette. I've seen the elusive Spaw. I think Max could get arrested for sending Spaw to a site where people have to look at him.... |
Subject: RE: Search Is Fixed From: catspaw49 Date: 13 Apr 10 - 12:48 AM They do? That's great......I was so worried that they weren't being given an equal forum. I'll notify Conrad the ! Peasant right away. Spaw And on a more serious note..........thanks. |
Subject: RE: Search Is Fixed From: Max Date: 13 Apr 10 - 12:30 AM Spaw, chatroulette.com already has trans-sexual cross dressing Albanian hat blockers doing nude Morris Dancing. |
Subject: RE: Search Is Fixed From: Max Date: 13 Apr 10 - 12:28 AM Ah, yes, the bugs. Not so much a bug as it is 2.9 million messages. Takes some crunch time to get through. Optimizing. Plus, I'm still indexing messages between 2,000,000 and 2,800,000. Server is a bit taxed at the moment. |
Subject: RE: Search Is Fixed From: catspaw49 Date: 13 Apr 10 - 12:26 AM Great! That was the only thing I asked for!!! Except for more accessibility for trans-sexual cross dressing Albanian hat blockers doing nude Morris Dancing. When can we expect some action on that? Spaw |
Subject: RE: Search Is Fixed From: Reinhard Date: 13 Apr 10 - 12:18 AM Thank you Max! But when I try to search for e.g. Peter Bellamy I get just two forum results and then this error message: Error Occurred While Processing Request Error Diagnostic Information Request timed out The time taken to process your request has exceeded the allowable limit of 30 seconds.
