After 30 years, Tim and NC Weil have moved backed to Colorado and added a 3rd verse to this tune (originally penned in 1980). Hope you enjoy it.

Welcome home from the other side of the Slope! I like the new verse...but don't recall seeing too many buffalo last time we visited the metropolis. If ya ever really wanna live like Ma and Pa Kettle, c'mon over.:-)

Western, as in Colorado, as in there is only one other slope in Colorado!**Big Grin**

Though, ancestral-wise, they started out in Leadville, then made their way West to New Castle..we are in the "Grand Valley" while I prefer being up and out where I can see.:-) The other side settled in Erie and Boulder, first, then some also made their way to New Castle. I have two great-aunts who reside in the old Niwot cemetery.

We did the country by car from CT to WY in 1993 with a dog, six birds, six cats, and a turtle. The time before, from WY to MA, I flew with three kids, a dog, 2 birds, and six or seven cats, I cannot remember. Yes, I'd lost my mind.:-)

I worked in Denver in 1999, when the Department of Energy Rocky Flats nuclear plant and the Department of Defense Rocky Mountain Arsenal (poison gas) were being dismantled - huge ecological disasters on both the east and west sides of Denver. I had to work at both facilities, and it was a bit spooky. I wonder what poisons I took home with me.
And I wonder what poisons are left in the Denver area.

In Denver, the traveler sees signs everywhere for "Front Range This" and "Front Range That." I suppose everyone in Denver knows what the term means, but outsiders have to guess - or look it up in Wikipedia:

The Front Range is a mountain range of the Southern Rocky Mountains of North America located in the central portion of the U.S. State of Colorado, and southeastern portion of the U.S. State of Wyoming.[1] It is the first mountain range encountered as one goes westbound along the 40th parallel north across the Great Plains of North America.

I'll never forget flying into Denver from Albuquerque a few years ago and seeing the amazing sight of the Front Range, heaving itself out of the earth along a north-south line as straight as a string.
The buildings of Denver looked liked bread crumbs in comparison.

Rarely is the structure of the earth so clear so see.

Leeneia you warm my heart. It is rare to see such a description of anything so well said.

A friend told me years ago as a child he was riding to Colorado with his family. They were driving across the plains and eventually saw what appeared to them a "terrible terrible storm" rising up in the West. That was their first sighting of the Front Range.
