Subject: RE: Dick Greenhaus and Susan to Whitby 2010 From: Susan of DT Date: 02 Jul 10 - 06:24 PM It looks like we have Monday nite August 16 (after Auchtermuchty) in Glasgow with a music night and a place to stay and probably Tuesday in Ayrshire near Glasgow. People have suggested some musical possibilities in Scotland and Yorkshire from then until Whitby - we have not made definite plans as yet. We need a place to stay near Manchester for our last night, August 28. Can anyone help us there? We can do a motel or B&B, but getting to know 'catters is more fun. Sarah - we will look for you at Whitby. We saw you there two years ago. |
Subject: RE: Dick Greenhaus and Susan to Whitby 2010 From: Jack Campin Date: 02 Jul 10 - 03:31 PM You might want to take in something of what's happening in Edinburgh: http://tinyurl.com/2cx95yf We can put you up for a couple of days if you want to do that. |

Subject: RE: Dick Greenhaus and Susan to Whitby 2010 From: Susan of DT Date: 24 Jun 10 - 06:16 PM Moira see you at Whitby. Next time (2012) we will probably do the southern route and go to the Wail. |
Subject: RE: Dick Greenhaus and Susan to Whitby 2010 From: GUEST,moira(flying cat) Date: 24 Jun 10 - 03:41 PM Hi Both, when you said you might be flying back from Heathrow I was going to suggest you stay with us the previous night however i see you're flying back from manchester so we hope to see you at whitby |
Subject: RE: Dick Greenhaus and Susan to Whitby 2010 From: Susan of DT Date: 24 Jun 10 - 08:14 AM I am glad to see that Max's trip is getting sorted out. We will see him at Whitby and share a cottage for several days. We still have room to visit with a few mudcatters is southern Scotland and northern England Aug 17-18 or thereabouts. It is much more fun to get to know people rather than to stay in B&Bs. See our schedule three posts up. We can also use a place to stay in Manchester our last night. |

Friday Aug 20 get to Bill Sables Sat Aug 21 drive to Whitby, stay until Sat Aug 28 Saturday Aug 28 drive to Manchester Sunday Aug 29, fly home |
Subject: RE: Dick Greenhaus and Susan to Whitby 2010 From: Susan of DT Date: 18 May 10 - 07:59 PM Decisions, decisions. Whether to follow the plan above, being in the UK from Aug 20 to Sept 7, going to the Wail after Whitby, visiting southern 'catters between Whitby and the Wail and flying out of Heathrow. Or to come earlier, Aug 13, and leave right after Whitby, going to Auchtermuchty, flying in to Glasgow and out from Manchester, visiting any northern 'catters who want to see us between Auchtermuchty and Whitby. So who wants to see us where and when? |
Subject: RE: Dick Greenhaus and Susan to Whitby 2010 From: Susan of DT Date: 17 May 10 - 07:58 PM Kitty - if it is near Heathrow, that is quite possible, but we are now considering an alternative... Has anyone been to the Auchtermuchty Festival the weekend before Whitby? Can anyone put us up or loan us camping gear if we go there? If we go to Auchtermuchty the week before Whitby, we would not go to the Wail, but would fly home shortly after Whitby. |
Subject: RE: Dick Greenhaus and Susan to Whitby 2010 From: Herga Kitty Date: 17 May 10 - 06:45 PM Susan - if your flight home is from London Heathrow, does that mean you might be able to visit us at the Herga folk club on 6 September? Kitty |
Subject: RE: Dick Greenhaus and Susan to Whitby 2010 From: Susan of DT Date: 17 May 10 - 07:18 AM Tentative plans: fly over Thu/Fri Aug 19/20 Manchester Fri nite at Bill Sables Sat to Sat Whitby. share cottage with Max and Jack Campin Fri Sep 3 to Sun Sep 5 at camping Wareham Wail Fly home Tuesday from London That leaves lots of visiting time Aug 28 to Sept 3 Dick is talking about heading north to Scotland first and then we head south toward Wareham, perhaps heading out to Cornwall, if there is time. So who would like to see us? It is unclear whether/when Max will be traveling with us. |
Subject: RE: Dick Greenhaus and Susan to Whitby 2010 From: Herga Kitty Date: 16 May 10 - 01:23 PM Refresh! Kitty |
Subject: RE: Dick Greenhaus and Susan to Whitby 2010 From: Susan of DT Date: 11 May 10 - 05:50 PM 2000 was our first trip over to Whitby. Bill Sables insisted we come. We love it. All trad festivals are really hard to find in the US. If we stay for the Wareham Wail, we would be moving south after Whitby and probably into Cornwall, where we have never been. Can any 'catters put us up on the way? Or near the Wail? |
Subject: RE: Dick Greenhaus and Susan to Whitby 2010 From: Herga Kitty Date: 11 May 10 - 04:30 PM Susan - Whitby is where I was introduced to the Digital Tradition - when you and Dick turned up at Graham Moore's workshop in 2000; to Mudcat in 2001 (when Tyke took me to the Ducks' Mudcat BBQ)and to Joe Offer, when he came to the Whitby Mudgather. So I hope to see Max in Whitby this year too, even if he can't get to the Wail! Kitty |
Subject: RE: Dick Greenhaus and Susan to Whitby 2010 From: stallion Date: 11 May 10 - 03:57 PM There is a great session at the Tap & Spile York, Friday nights, worth a trip (can be a bit bruising!), and I can thoroughly recommend the wednesday night at Flaxton. Peter |
Subject: RE: Dick Greenhaus and Susan to Whitby 2010 From: Susan of DT Date: 11 May 10 - 03:32 PM Kitty - The Wail would get us into a third week in the UK, which we can do, since we are mostly retired, but I doubt that Max can get more than two weeks away, if that much. |
Subject: RE: Dick Greenhaus and Susan to Whitby 2010 From: Herga Kitty Date: 10 May 10 - 06:55 PM It would be great if you could get Max to the Wail! Kitty |

Subject: RE: Dick Greenhaus and Susan to Whitby 2010 From: Susan of DT Date: 06 May 10 - 05:48 PM anybody know anything about the Wareham Wail? It is about a week after Whitby and sounds like it might be fun. Has anyone been there? Is the singing mostly trad? |
Subject: RE: Dick Greenhaus and Susan to Whitby 2010 From: Susan of DT Date: 22 Apr 10 - 12:35 PM Thanx, all. We will be leaving for a folk weekend soon (NEFFA), so we won't be responding to postings for a few days. |
Subject: RE: Dick Greenhaus and Susan to Whitby 2010 From: GUEST,Fantum Date: 22 Apr 10 - 04:26 AM Hello Susan I missed one from the list Friday Robin Hoods Bay folk club at the Dolphin (5miles south of Whitby) All of these I would call traditional certainly the majority of what is sung is trad. But there will always be something else thrown in. There will be if I'm there If I had to order them You have to go to the Bay on Fri thats a tourist thing and its a nice club Its got a big hill to get up and down on foot but if you can do it then it is worth the effort Google Robin Hoods Bay folk club The Rugby club on Sun They have by far the most accomplished group of performers Google Guisborough Folk club After that Mickelby at the White Hart is a small club but friendly enough Even Tootler and I go there Definitly Trad The web site is a bit out of date Saltburn the same The Cutty wren http://www.cuttywrenfolkclub.com/ Again freindly enough bit more variation in the music The Saltburn Folk festival is always fun even I go there Very nice weekend. The Cutty site above will lead you to the info The information about guests is not available yet so you need to open this thread again nearer the time and I will Add some more Fantum |
Subject: RE: Dick Greenhaus and Susan to Whitby 2010 From: Tootler Date: 21 Apr 10 - 07:17 PM There's Saltburn Folk Festival on the 13th, 14th & 15th of August, Just a week before Whitby, smaller but very friendly. Friday nights there's Bay Folk Club at Robin Hood's Bay about 5 miles from Whitby. A bit further afield but an excellent night is the Wellington (The Welly) at Wolviston on Thursday nights. About 40 miles from Whitby. Run by Ken Wilson of the Co. Durham Wilsons. Plenty of trad stuff there. |
Subject: RE: Dick Greenhaus and Susan to Whitby 2010 From: Tig Date: 21 Apr 10 - 01:35 PM Great news Dick. We are up at Whitby all week stewarding the artistes campsite so are bound to catch up with you sometime. Consider coming on the Eskbelle with us on the Tuesday night to help raise funds for the Runswick Bay lifeboat. Raggytash will let you have the details. |

Subject: RE: Dick Greenhaus and Susan to Whitby 2010 From: Susan of DT Date: 20 Apr 10 - 11:13 AM Fantum - That's an amazing amount of music. We don't get that concentration of music events anywhere outside of a large city in the US. Are these all fairly trad? At the moment I am collecting info to design the trip. |

Subject: RE: Dick Greenhaus and Susan to Whitby 2010 From: Susan of DT Date: 20 Apr 10 - 08:59 AM Thanx Nick, that sounds plausible. We'll see what develops. Is that an offer of a bed as well? |
Subject: RE: Dick Greenhaus and Susan to Whitby 2010 From: Nick Date: 20 Apr 10 - 08:41 AM You'd always be welcome in Farlington on a Wednesday night where we meet each week and get together and sing and play. It's not all traditional but you'd hopefully enjoy it. Once described by an Irish friend "like singing in a friend's front room in Ireland". We're about 50 miles south of Whitby about 10 miles north of York. There's a link here with some info on what we are about though the music is a year or two old it's still representative. |
Subject: Dick Greenhaus and Susan to Whitby 2010 From: Susan of DT Date: 20 Apr 10 - 07:57 AM Dick and I are planning to go to Whitby Folk Week again this summer, as we do roughly every two years. We love that festival. We have arranged a cottage, but have not yet decided exactly when to fly in and out to leave room to visit mudcat friends old and new. Would anyone like us to visit them before or after Whitby? Are there any other trad folk events right before or after? |
