I checked out all the songs under the title of beggerman and the jolly begger and nothin' came out of it. I'm looking fo ra song that has the chorus.

I'll go no more a rovin', rovin' in the night

I'll go no more a rovin' let the moon shine so bright

I'll go no more a rovin'.

The song is "The Jolly Beggar", Child #279, but not all versions have that chorus. The earliest that does, and has a tune, is that 'The Scots Musical Museum', #266. There are about 30 texts with tunes and about a half-dozen more tunes in Bronson's 'The Traditional Tunes of the Child Ballads'.

It sounds like the same version - (oh heck, was it Planxty, or the Bothy Band?) - did.

Norman Kennedy sings it on his Folk-Legacy album (FSS-34), now available as a "custom cassette" with the original booklet of notes and texts. Check "custom" on our web site and have a look around. A percentage goes to Mudcat, you know. Click here: Folk-Legacy Hope this works!

Sandy
