Foot-Stompin' Hymns is scheduled for October 24, 2 pm, Fremont Baptist. I'm collecting ideas for songs to include on my blog, My Little Hymnal.

Okay I listened to the Watersons' and am of the opinion that it is not related to Fanny's apart from the phrase "the good old way".

I haven't heard the Watersons' "Good Old Way"; the words aren't the same but until I hear it I won't know if it's related.

Subject: LYR ADD: The Good Old Way (Crosby/Doane)
From: Haruo
Date: 27 Apr 10 - 12:41 PM

This was the "Good Old Way" that Fanny Crosby wrote, music by William H. Doane. Here's a PDF: The Good Old Way and a MIDI. We sang the first and last verses.

THE GOOD OLD WAY
Words by Fanny Crosby, 1889
Music by William H. Doane

  1. We are going forth with our staff in hand,
    Through a desert wild in a stranger land;
    But our faith is bright and our hope is strong,
    And the Good Old Way is our pilgrim song.
    Refrain:
    'Tis the Good Old Way, by our fathers trod;
    'Tis the way of life, and it leadeth unto God;
    'Tis the only path to the realms of day;
    We are going home in the Good Old Way.
  2. There are foes without, there are foes within;
    They would turn us back to the path of sin;
    We will stop our ears to the words they say,
    While we onward press in the Good Old Way.
    (Refrain)

  3. In the blissful hour of communion sweet,
    Let us come with joy to the Mercy-seat;
    O we love to sing, and we love to pray,
    And we bless the Lord for the Good Old Way.
    (Refrain)

  4. On the brink of time when we stand at last,
    When our sun has set, and our work is past;
    When we bid farewell to our mortal clay,
    We will praise the Lord for the Good Old Way.
    (Refrain)

Which "Good Old Way" was that?   Is it the one the Watersons sing?    Is there a connection to Fanny Crosby--or is it just a wonderfully rousing song?

Thanks.

Ron

If you raised money for the three causes AND folks enjoyed it you did very well!

The PowerPoint we threw on the wall can be downloaded in PDF here.

Attendance was not huge, but we raised about $300 for our three mission causes. Every little bit helps. And those who came had a good time.

The next one, Evergreen Hymn-Sing #4, tentatively entitled "Foot-Stompin' Hymns", will be in October, probably the 10th or 17th. Same place, same time etc. I think.

Thanks. Maybe someday I'll be able to attend such interesting gatherings. Fanny is one of our favorite hymn writers.

Wish you could make it. Tonight is both Kat Eggleston in a Northwest-Seaport-sponsored concert and Japanese Baptist Church's annual Sukiyaki Dinner and Cultural Program (with an Okinawa-ken focus this year), both of which I'd dearly love to attend but getting ready for the hymn-sing is the priority...

This coming Sunday, April 25, at 2 pm, Fremont Baptist Church in Seattle, WA, USA, will host "Evergreen Hymn-Sing #3: To God Be the Glory!", focusing on the life and works of the most prolific and enduring American hymnwriter, Fanny Crosby (Frances Jane Crosby Van Alstyne), 1820-1915.

The tentative order of business is up on my little hymnal blog.

Flyers are here and here

Admission is free. All are welcome. A freewill offering will be taken to benefit three important mission causes supported by the Evergreen Baptist Association:
* Burmese Refugee Resettlement in South King County

* SHARE/WHEEL Tent Cities homeless services

* Nzunga Mabudiga's eye clinic in Cap Haïtien, Haiti

Light refreshments will follow the singing

Any of you in the greater Seattle area who enjoy hymn-singing, come on down!

Haruo = Leland Bryant Ross
