I have tried at least 3 or four times to download the Digital Tradition on this 10 year old MacG3 that a friend gave me, no luck. For some reason the fershlugginer machine will download the DT, but then refuse to open it for me to look at. Any suggestions?

Does it work downloading one song at a time?
I'm on WXP, so I can't help. Is there some species of compression involved, when the DT is in it's entirety?

I have just downloaded the DT for windows, it took 10 seconds.

HOW do you download the DT...where is the link ?
is it from the drop-down (quicklinks) menu?

some downloads require you to click on
"save as" or "run"

have you sorted this out, Mark?

The Mac OSX version should run on a G3. I have had problems getting it to run on later machines.

Mark, PM me with the following data:

1. What OS are you running on the G3?
2. What is the full file name of the download before you try to open it? Where does the downloaded file appear when you download it?
3. What error message do you get if any when you try to open it?
4. Does your system have Stuffit among its applications or utilities?

Stuffit isn't supported any more, I think? (Or at least, Apple would rather you didn't use it).

Well, the problem is the .sit file it DLs is reported as possibly corrupt.

This is one of those things that USED to work but now doesn't.

I will try a couple 'Speriments when I get home and see if I can sort anything out.

Mark is running the same OS--10.4.11--as I am and I encounter the same problem. When trying to un-pack the compressed download file it reports back as being corrupted; the application itself never makes it into the de-compress output folder, although the font and help files do. This does not appear to be a user error. ;>)

Joe can you report this to whoever took on the job of programming the OSX version to see if he knows where it might have gone off the rails?

Since I have 10.4.11 too (on a MacBook laptop, about 2 years old), I decided to give it a try and got no joy either. And when I tried to download the ReadMe, it gave me the 404 error message:

Whether running System 9 or any of the OSX versions, I've never been able to open a downloaded version of the DT on any of the various Macs I've used; they download OK but they're unopenable.

So I use the link to the DT on the Forum.

There is an older readme on the server, but it applies to 9.x only.

But let me emphasize that I HAVE had this running with no problem under 10.x, but I am not sure which version or when it broke.

I have created a new .zip file containing all the components of a workable DT for OSX.

It is about 9.5Megs.

I will email it to anyone who PMs me their email address with a request for it.

All I can guarantee is that I built it from the original files on the shipped CD and it made my DT work fine.

What one would do is take this zip file and put it in your Applications folder (or elsewhere if preferred) and then un-zip it.

CAVEAT

There was a glitch in the original Mac DT which is still there. If you search by text the files don't index correctly and if you click on one of the found titles, a different one will appear.

If you search by song title or go directly to a song from the Song List, the correct files comes up.

This is (I suspect) a hash-table error but I have no idea how to remedy it.

The Mac version of the DT has been on my Mac G4 OS9.2 box since I bought that Mac in October of 2000. No trouble downloading it or using it.

Just never got around to downloading it to my newer mirror door G4 running OS10.4.11.
