Subject: RE: Upcoming Female Artists From: S.T.M. Date: 28 Apr 10 - 08:05 AM Thanks guys, some excellent ones :) Herga Kitty, you are quite right! I just thought I'd put them on the list as they are very rarely mentioned in threads and definitely deserve to be, I think. Plus, I don't think we've heard the last of Bill Jones. I have a feeling that if she releases another album, it'll be a big success. I'm not sure why, I just do? We'll see! Maz O'Conner too, and Sophy Blundell of Wheeler Street. |

Subject: RE: Upcoming Female Artists From: greg stephens Date: 28 Apr 10 - 07:13 AM I think False Hare (Katie Weatherall and Helen Morris) are terific. Here they are(sound is not good but you'll get the idea) at Glastonbury 2009 False Hare |
Subject: RE: Upcoming Female Artists From: Rob Naylor Date: 28 Apr 10 - 05:28 AM Beth Gibbins has a pretty good voice when she lets it go: Beth Gibbins with Fairport She was just 15 when she sang that with Fairport. Not sure she can be classed as "folk" though: Tiny Tin Lady is moving further away from the genre now. Katie Doherty's voice can be a bit "breathy", but I still like it: Katie Doherty "Bridges" |

Subject: RE: Upcoming Female Artists From: GUEST,Guest - Lin Date: 27 Apr 10 - 07:55 PM Priscilla Herdman a fine, fine folk singer from Upstate, NY. She has a lovely voice! Sometimes reminds me a little of early Judy Collins. She is on tour in California right now and I had the opportunity to see in concert in Southern, Califoria this past weekend. She will have some radio spots in Northern, California this week and if you just go to Priscilla Herdman's web site you will be able to find the folk radio programs she will be on. She will also have three concerts in Northern, California in Santa Cruz, Berkeley and Davis. Her concert in Southern, California was wonderful and I loved her songs, especially her cover of Don McClean's, "Vincent" and a very moving version of, "Waltzing Matilda." |

Subject: RE: Upcoming Female Artists From: oldhippie Date: 27 Apr 10 - 02:22 PM I saw the thread title, then the post that added the "folk" requirement. Until it being limited to folk, I was going to suggest Gin Wigmore. Alas... |

Subject: Upcoming Female Artists From: S.T.M. Date: 26 Apr 10 - 12:32 PM Hiya, this is "Sinéad" (I decided to sign up). After all the recent discussion about weak voices from females in folk music and who has a voice of distinction, I was wondering which female folk singers you would recommend and why. The only rule is that they have to be new to the scene (let's say, the last 10 years) or unknown. For me, it has to be Jackie Oates, Bill Jones and Nancy Kerr (okay, so she's not new or THAT unknown but she's rarely mentioned). Sinéad. |
