Finally, computer access! Having trouble with my cookies.

His name is Jamie, Bob.

It certainly was nice to meet you Steve. I'm glad you enjoyed your visit. Jamie and I held out at the fest all four days as well and it was excellent, as always. Missed the blues workshop though, that many people later said was the 'best of the best'.

Thanks again to the 'Cat for opening up our small world...

Sheye

Thanks Bob! I'll see if I can send you copies of the photos when they're back.

Dan, I'm told that if you take a taxi in Edmonton they're likely to go via the airport! Take a local with you. Oh, and be sure to buy some shoes from Louise Poole - you'll have to ask the name of the shop.

Steve

Hey, Steve, glad to hear you had a good time. You can tell Beckie, the spelling error is noted; I shan't make the same mistake twice. Sounds like Beckie shares an obsession with my Sweetie, Carol Imelda ...

Names? Starting with you and moving to the left: Steve Parkes (guitar and vocals), Steve Poole (harps, harmonicas and vocals), Bob Morin (guitar, bass and vocals), Mike Sheward (electric guitar and vocals), Paul Landry (beer), Ray Evans (beer), Bob Landry (guitar and vocals), Leeann (Sheye), Leeann's sweetie (his name?? Leeann ... help?? Please forgive me??), Maureen, Carol, and back to you. In and out of the room and the house were Beckie, Erin and Lauren. I've forgotten the order we sat in when Maureen took the pictures.

Dan, taxi fares haven't gone up that much - $7 should still do it (the perimeter only a 20 block drive.) And the tiger cage is gone, replaced by the bungee jump in the water park, the golf driving range on the roof, and its' newest attraction, Carol's daughter, Lauren, who recently landed a part-time job at Silver City, the Mall's third and largest movie theatre complex. The dolphin pool is still there, and having been in the vicinity during mating season, I can attest to the veracity of the fellow who complained this week about an attempted rape foisted on him by a dolphin.

Note to other MudCatters: if you plan to visit West Edmonton Mall in the future, please let me know ... you'll be within 20 minutes of my house.

Bob

The very same, Alan! Your name doesn't ring a bell, I'm afraid; were you a regular?

Is that the Steve Parkes who used to be resident with Barry Roberts at The Fitters Arms in Walsall in the 1970's

I'll leave my daughter (Beckie 'Imelda Marcos' Parkes, the Shoe Queen of Stonnall) to write one about the Mall, Dan. She thought she'd died and gone to Shoppers' Heaven! Now she knows they have a hotel there, she's planning next year's holiday already.

Well, Steve, if you're going write songs about Alberta, I hope you devote one to The Mall. It was a $7 cab ride around the perimeter when I was there. It must be $35 by now! Don't forget to mention the tiger cage and the hockey rink. All the best, Dan

Holy Cow! A thread all about me, eh!
Hey, I've picked up the lingo already!
Bob, let me thank you again for a wonderful evening! It's been more like four weeks than two with all the things we've packed in - it can't just be jet lag. (It was just the two, Bob, otherwise we'd have get together again.) You'll have to remind me of the names of your friends, as I'm utterly hopeless at remembering names. Beckie (note spelling - very touchy subject!) hit it off with your daughters. She may not have my impeccable taste in music, but beading is near enough to traditional I guess. She's always happy to meet other enthusiasts - expect a letter!
What a great country! It's so big! I could go on for hours ... but I'd better not. If I wrote my own songs, I'd have enough material for an album. It'll be some time before I can afford to come again, but I'm making plans. If any of you guys are coming over here, let me know. Excuse me, I'm falling asleep again!

Steve

Though Steve is out here for 3 weeks, we were only able to get together once. Steve and his daughter Becky are touring the Rockies courtesy of his old friends Steve and Maureen Poole. He returns to Merry Olde this coming weekend. If I can get to speak to him again, I'll find out if he stops at Pearson Intn'l on the way back and let you know the times. It sure was fun listening to his Cockney pub tunes..

Just kidding of course! You never need to use NOI when I'm on the other end. Hope you folks are having a great time. And you can send Steve to us here in Ontario any time.

I've been reading your posts for awhile, Rick, and I never had any doubt as to your preferences. I just couldn't resist using the word *bg*. (NOI, of course)

Fine and dandy Bob, but careful about using the word "tryst". Although I think Catspaw is a fine human being (well, an OK one I guess) I'd rather listen to Neil Young for a thousand hours than do any "trysting" with him.
Say hello to Steve from all of us.

Rick

Sheye, myself and a number of my musical friends had the pleasure of spending an evening with Steve Parkes (of England) who's visiting his old friend, Steve Poole in Edmonton. Like the Rick Fielding/Catspaw tryst, it was like meeting an old friend. We introduced him to Kubassa burgers (I left the burnt ones out on the barbeque to cool off) and Alexander Keith's India Pale Ale (the ale of choice in Cape Breton). Although the Steves spent the last four days overdosing on music at the Edmonton Folk Festival, they were ready to jump right into action; Steve Parkes on guitar and vocals, and Steve Poole with his harp collection (including a 1-inch long Hohner harmonica that he could play ... good thing he didn't have the hiccups.) If this is a sample of what happens when Mudcatters get together, put me down as a definite for Mudstock2000.

Bob
