What a great turn out for Alan`s wake I have never seen so many cars.I had to park just at the gates. The service was planed by Alan and was full of humour and just a little sadness to reflect on his life. The Cross Keys was full so many that music was played in several rooms.I had the chance to play with so many musicians that I had not met for years. A great send off and I hope is family were proud.

Strangely enough we had 1 recording of Alan from the evening when he was a guest on Sounds of Folk, singing One Starry Night, so we played that. It was such as trange feeling - listening to him sing when he wasn't here. Very emotionl.
He was such a big part of oiur lives, and of folk music in ngeneral, particularly in Saddleworth and Tameside, that I still can't believe he's not here. I still expect him to start playing and singing, and Kath to accompany him!
Ali x
