Why can't someone here watch the movies and write down the lyrics for all to see? I would, but my Dpanish is very weak.

There's a catalans song appears the tune was from that.
About (allegedly) one of the many Spanish Civil Wars, and an Irish Brigade soldier. Irish are famous for winning wars for every country except... Ireland.

But I heard the song in the Pretty Horses movie. I had tuned in late and didn't catch the title of the film. Now I know.

I kept looking for it and getting the Catalans version and the incredibly sparse history lesson.

Right now I have a dual mission, find the Valle Rio Rojo lyrics and the Mex version of Dylan's "Blowing in the Wind" which one of my jail friends from Parral Chihuahua Mexico who sang it to me right before lockdown and was transferred early the next morning. Bummers all around. But hey, I love the musical way of speaking that underlies all Spanish language(s). Makes it easier to sing.

I believe I've finally got the one verse I needed.

Ven acqui a mi lado si me quieres/No te apures a de sirve tu adios/
Mas e recuerda dia en lindo valle/Y el vaquero que tanto te amor.

I'm still searching for Mr. Prada, however. It's been quite a journey. More to follow.

Met the guy who sang it in the movie today...he is a wrangler and wrote the Spanish lyrics for it....he belted it out after getting off his horse on a mountain trail outside Santa Fe and it was still beautiful! His name is Julienne and well known in the Santa Fe area. :) REALLY nice old wrangler....

Might as well have the only singable Spanish text yet suggested here in case the site it came from disappears or whatever.

I was thinking along the same lines as Mark G: Spain/Mexico...so I wouldn't rule it out.

There are two Esperanto versions in Donu Hejmon al mi, my 1996 songbook, but I don't have it in front of me. One starts "Nian valon laÅdire vi lasos", the other "Nian valon vi baldaÅ forlasos"; both are based on "Red River Valley". Wouldn't surprise me if there's an Esperanto version of "Jarama Valley" out there, tooâ€"Catalonia was a hotbed of Esperantism before, during and after the warâ€"but I've never run across it. If desired I'll be happy to type out one or both of these.

On the other hand the Mexicans were great supporters of the the democratic forces in Spain when Jarama Valley was written by members of the International Brigade .. so it could easily have been sung in Spanish in Mexico

The Spanish lyrics on Wiki are a translation, they can't be sung. On Altavoz del frente you can find the very same translation AND a Spanish adaptation by Pi de la Serra and Pere Camps that can be sung to the tune but there's no "lindo valle" in it.

The tune all right, but would not have been used in Mexico. Perhaps there were never more than a few words for the flick, not a complete lyric.

Is this what you're looking for? I've heard Arthur Johnstone do it, but so did Pete Seeger and Woody Guthrie. The tune is certainly Red River Valley.

No, just in the film. The version that is used in the film refers to "el lindo valle," instead of "el valle del Rio Rojo." Thanks.

Here's what I found (as mentioned above). By the time you get to the second line you realize this just isn't do-able within the constraints of the traditional tune.

Valle De Rojo Del Rio

Desde este valle que dicen que van
Echaremos de menos tus ojos brillantes y sonrisa dulce
Porque dicen que usted está tomando el sol
Esto ha iluminado nuestro camino por un tiempo

Ven y siéntate a mi lado si me quieres

Anybody out there have the Spanish lyrics to "Red River Valley"? A version can be heard briefly in the film, "All the Pretty Horses," during a scene at the Mexican prison. Googling hasn't helped. Only found one version that way and the lyrics don't really seem to work within the constraints of the original tune.
