A message from a friend: "Do you know any kids song(s) about evolution, early hominids, neanderthals, cave humans, hunting/discovery of fire/farming, or anything like that?" I come up blank. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

also see Man Cub from the Jungle Book movie based on Rudyard Kipling
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WOcyYyxqN_g with Mogli the man cub and
about an ape that wants to be human

also Mark Graham has a song about the creation story...
the big band theory
as well as a song about dinosaurs called "their brains were small
and they died"

Sam Hinton wrote the classic evolution song to the tune of "It's a Long Way to Tipperary":

It's a long way from Amphioxus,
It's a long way to us,
It's a long way from Amphioxus
To the meanest human cuss.
It's good-bye, fins and gill-slits,
Welcome, lungs and hair!
It's a long, long way from Amphioxus,
But we all came from there.

You can teach backwards, too, by showing the wrong stereotypes and explaining why they're wrong. Dave van Ronk's "Ally Oop" shows that off.

This is probably *not* what you're looking for:

Evolution song

There's this one, which might be more appropriate:

Gentle Arms of Eden

and this one:

I Come From Water

But none of them are really kids' songs :-)
