I'm not sure how these compare to Paddy's or Sue's words.
Sue is a catter so maybe you'll hear from her.

That's the one! (Not sure how many verses Sue gave it, but there was definitely a Columbia's shore in there and a pull-back to third person in the last verse.) Many thanks.

Here's a performance on Youtube (nice, but I prefer Sue's!).

We're an ambidextrous bunch at the ex-Beech singaround - I've done My Bonnie Boy and When I Was In My Prime myself, despite being a chap. Thinking about it, you often see ballads beginning, in so many words, "the other day I overheard a woman saying...", and I wonder if they were written that way to make it easier for men to sing them.

It sounds very similar to 'When a man's in love' as sung by Paddy Tunney on the "Songs of Courtship" disc in the "Folksongs of Britain" series edited and collected by Peter Kennedy and Alan Lomax.
The Midi tune in the DT is different.
But why would Sue be singing
'When a man's in love he feels no cold
Like me not long ago'
I thought it was a man's song - but maybe it's ambidextrous?
Or she may have alternative words to that tune.

A song I heard last week* has been going round in my head ever since, despite the fact that I can't remember a word of it. A lovely song (beautifully sung), but what was it?
