Yes looks like the start of a great little club. Sorry I could only stay for the first half.

We had a fabulous night and definitely proved that folk are alive and kicking in West Yorkshire.... 25 people came along with at least 15 performers. Lots of variety - monologues, stories, song, mostly folk and a little bluegrass (which was great). Looking forward to next time - 11th June. See y'all there.

Thanks Soldier Boy for posting this. There are more refs to the origins of the name at my thread here: http://mudcat.org/thread.cfm?threadid=129385 and for a fuller history and to hear the Cropper Lads song, go here http://www.folkleads.org.uk/songs_a-d/croppers_songs/croppers_history.html

Hope to see as many of you as can make it tomorrow night.

Fiona

Great name ... comes form the Luddites nearly 200 years back! Enoch made great sledge hammers as well as the wide knitting frames that the Luddites used to wreck them with!

Keith and I will try to make it sometime, but no guarantees as to when.

We both wish the club every success. It's a lovely pub and, if I'm not mistaken, there is a fabulous chocolate shop in Slaithwaite.

A new Folk Club is being born this Friday in the Colne Valley, near Huddersfield, West Yorkshire.

Starting at 8.30pm in the upstairs room in The Commercial pub in Slaithwait (Slawit) some local people have decided that a void exists on the folk scene in this neck of the woods and that they have decided to fill it.

It will be a mix of song and music and very informal so that everyone, whether novice or more professional, will be very welcome indeed.

The Commercial is famous and award-winning for the quality and choice/range of it's hand-pulled real ales and wine selections so it is a truly good venue for such occasions.

The folk club will meet every month on the second Friday of each month so please put it in your diaries and come along to support this brand new venture.

Thank you.

Chris
