Subject: Brisk Young Ploughboy From: kevthefarmer Date: 23 May 10 - 04:13 AM I was lucky enough to attend Bob Coppers first Thursday monthly folk music evenings at the Central Club in Peacehaven back in the early to mid 'eighties and learned a lot of songs both directly from Bob and his family and from the records and books available then. Having had a twenty year break I now find myself farming in New Zealand and singing at the Moutere Inn in Nelson first Thursday of the month (as it goes!) I try to sing a "new" song every month and this June I am singing "Brisk Young Ploughboy". A houseguest video recorded me at home and posted on youtube and I thought you might like to see it! |

Subject: RE: Brisk Young Ploughboy From: S.T.M. Date: 23 May 10 - 07:41 AM Thanks for this :) It's so odd how these kind of things happen, but I recently went to go and see a play called War Horse. It's a fantastic beautiful and well performed production but the best surprise was the unaccompanied folk singing and fiddle singing. I had no idea what to expect of the play so this was a great surprise and the fiddle singer? He was mesmerising and reminded me of Nic Jones at some points. ANYWAY, to get to the point. One of the songs was A Brisk Young Ploughboy and when I heard him sing it, I vowed that would be my next song to learn, although I don't have any recordings of it. Now I do! |
