For the past two years I've been unable to come to Cleckheaton due to work committments but they've changed the date of that to a week later so I may be able to come along. Only down side is the Sheffield-Bradford bus which used to stop at Clecky is no more. Will see if I can get a lift.Presume singarounds are still at Wickham ?

You can buy a concert tickets for the Sunday afternoon concert in the Town Hall, (£20). There is also a concert in the Commercial (£8) These tickets are only available on the day and subject to number of people attending the venue. Last year we managed to fit everybody in so there should be no problem. The concert at the Marsh in the evening on Sunday is free so a ticket not needed. The web site has been updated, with all the artists listed and the days that they are appearing so you can check if you wish to buy a ticket for the Sunday afternoon.

Does anybody know if you can just turn up at the campsite and pay there for camping or do you have to go into the festival office in the Town Hall to get a camping pass?

P.S Why are Camping/Campsite details not featured prominently on the home page of the web site or at least on the 'Accomodation' section of the site?

At first glance of the web site a potential newcomer to the festival would not be aware that there is a huge campsite a short(ish) walk from the town AND that a shuttle minibus service runs between the campsite and the centre of town.

Because camping facilities are not immediately obvious at a glance on the Home Page, potential newcomers could be deterred/discouraged from considering to come to this brilliant festival.

Perhaps it would make sense to have a seperate and dedicated 'CAMPING' page link alongside the other information links on the left hand side of the Home Page.

There is much positive and important information about the campsite that would definately deserve a page of its own.

e.g:

* The size of the campsite (it's massive! and therefore very unlikely it will ever be too full to accept all who want to camp over the weekend)
* It can accomodate tents/caravans/campervans/motorhomes etc.
* Cars can be driven onto the field and left alongside tents etc.
* The facilities available: - portaloos/washing facilities/drinking water supply points/fire buckets/first aid points etc etc.
* Plus whether there is:
- electric hook-up points for caravans/motorhomes
- a food tent
- a music/session tent for late revellers
- a stewards tent/office
- Security stewards on site 24 hours a day
* Whether campers have to book and pay for camping in advance or if they can pay on arrival - and if they can pay on arrival whether they can pay at the campsite itself or if they need to call into the Festival Office in town first to get camping tickets.
* The cost of camping per night for tents/caravans & motorhomes and whether there is any additional cost for cars left on the campsite.
* The availability of a free shuttle minibus service between the campsite and the town centre - and the start and finish times of the service.
* A map could also be included showing location of the campsite, together with full directions from M62 and from A62.

That's a lot of information which could easily fill a dedicated page of its own.

Hope you don't think I am being critical or negative in any way by suggesting the above. I do not intend to be; I love this festival and have attended it for many years.

In fact I love it so much I want to encourage as many newcomers as possible to come to the festival to support it and enjoy it as much as I do and to put it in their diaries every year as a 'must do' folk festival.

It is for this reason I have gone to such length here to suggest much greater prominence be given on the web site's Home Page to the existance of such excellent Camping facilities nearby.

As I have said, it is not immediately obvious from a quick scan of the Home Page that any camping facilities are available and any potential newcomer looking to come to the festival and hoping to camp over might then hope to find details about this in the 'Accomodation' section on the Home Page.
But this section only lists local and not so local hotels and guest houses and gives no alternative option for camping.

So a cursory look at the web site might easily give the impression that camping facilities are not available and therefore deter people from even considering coming to Cleckheaton Folk Festival or investigating further.
Which would be a real shame because if you haven't been to this festival you don't know what a great time you have been missing.

Anyway, sorry for rambling on so. I hope the organizers appreciate that this is just constructive suggestions for all the right reasons and with their best interests at heart.

Hope I haven't bored you all to death!!

At least anybody looking at this thread who hasn't been to this festival yet now knows that the Festival has excellent and very large camping facilities nearby.

And if you are a potential newcomer reading this, get yersen off to Cleckheaton Folk festival on 2 to 4 July 2010.

YOU'LL LOVE IT!

Thanks Dave the Director. I am very glad that you received my suggestions in the spirit with which they were intended.

At the end of the day the campsite you create for your feastival weekend is one of your major ASSETS and should be promoted and treated as such.

I go to quite a few Folk Festivals and know that many struggle to find a campsite so large and near to town as yours and would be envious as hell of what you have got.

They know that the success of their festival depends upon attracting large enough numbers of people to make it worthwhile and that local hotels and bedsits are too expensive for many and could not possibly accomodate the number of people they need.
So a very large campsite that can easily cope with an expanding number of attendees year on year is an absolute godsend.

And at £3 per person per night for camping for festival ticket holders and £8 per person per night for non ticket holders and no extra charge for a car parked up over the weekend, this represents very good value for money.

You have an extremely strong USP (Unique Selling Point) here folks - so please make the most of it.

Chris

We are grateful for any suggestions (clean ones only) that might help us run the website and the festival in a more user friendly manner. All suggestions will be considered. Now look you here Soldier Boy you where at The Cleckheaton Folk Festival Last year. So the lack of details on the Website are your Fault. You obviously did not fill in the questionare and comment forms that was available to all festival goers at the Town Hall. If you had done the Hardworking Cleckwickhams would have provided the details this year.

What use is the time of the last free bus back to the campsite to you anyway you dirty stop out. You were in the Nook till 5am at the Holmfirth Festival. What you need is the time of the First Bus back to the Campsite not the LAST. I hear bye fine you the cost of a pint to be paid to Dave the Director. :-)

I might even buy that naughty boy Tyke a pint for his no holds barred cheek and impertinence - and than pour it over his head.

NOT TO BE MISSED - 1st JULY - 8.30pm - Admission FREEEEEEEEEEE!!
COMRADES CLUB, HECKMONDIKE, WEST YORKSHIRE

BOWIE BLISS + COCKERHAM (Plus Russ Hughes and The Mahogany Monkeys)

Tom Bliss: Guitar, mandola, mandocello, fiddle etc.
Philip Cockerham: Guitar, mandolin
Dave Bowie: Double bass.

The arrival of this trio has been greeted with knowing nods, not because of any lack of quality - (they're fantastic) but because 'master craftsman' Tom Bliss retired, loudly, from touring in July 2009.

But he didn't say he'd never gig again, (just not in the same hectic way), and six months without picking up an instrument was long enough.

It was Tom's old mate Dave (seen recently with Steve Tilston and Sketch, alongside Boyles; Maggie and Gary) who got the ball rolling. Tom was happy to bring his 'greatest hits' to the party, but academia had overtaxed his brain, so any new material would have to come from elsewhere. Then a MySpace mail revealed that Philip, (from Tom's 'Behind The Wall', and Tom and Dave's 'Belladonna') had a superb new album out, and was winning a large folk audience.

They were rehearsing within a week.

Tom and Philip, an excellent guitarist, take turns in singing lead. Tom's 'brilliant' story songs are well known - Phil's more contemporary works becoming so, (Tom admits him to be the superior writer). Underpinned by Dave's legendary bull fiddle, and lofted by three part harmonies and delicate interplay, this is one band you absolutely must not miss.

That Chris is like a dog with a bone it's a pitty Clekheaton FF hasn't got a Campsite like the one Whitby Folk Week used to use at Rusup that flooded with a Spring Tide. Then you could make him pitch his tent down the Wetend and then send an urgent call out for the Whitby Lifeboat!

Yes Chris you can pay at the Campsite but it's better to book in addvance! Beacause we don't want the Moths in your wallet eating our tents! :-) mine is a Pint of Landlord!

Will be putting the cobblestone tyres on the car, have got a flat cap a waistcoat & a pair of clogs, just need to get down to the dog rescue & buy a whipet.
Only joking, I am from the North anyway, then I joined the RAF & ended up in Oxfordshire, so here to stay.
