Setting the record straight, I was in those days a teacher/musician living in Stockbridge VT. Playef in rock bank Joyfull Noise 196u-69 (RCA3963)..Wrote the song thinking about the fact that all the set music to the psalms was lost along the way except the names of some of the forms.
Went on to do international banking living in Chicago area and Switzerland, still write and sing when I get the chance.
Margaret MacArthur was a true folk treasure, taken from us too soon!

I wrote the song circa 1973s and Margaret learned it from my friend John Coster and asked to record it. Another of my tunes was recorded in '79 by Doug Dillard (Stars In My Crrown) Glad you all like the song!!

Yes, that Philo recording is lovely. I had the great pleasure of listening when it was recorded. I treasured Margaret's music since then. She must have known thousands of music lovers but always remembered me when I saw her sporadically, at preformances!

I've been singing this song for many years, and learned it directly from Margaret MacArthur in 1974. She said she learned it directly from the author, David Hanni. It's one of the "comfort songs" that I sing to and for myself in times of trouble and turmoil. Not surprised, John, to hear that David Hanni was a minister. This is a song that speaks eloquently to our shared journey.

David Hanni was a minister in Dover, VT, and as might be obvious a friend of Margaret and an amateur singer. I don't think I ever met him, just knew of him from talking to Margaret.

There are tapes and used vinyl copies of this album available on Amazon, but not from Margaret's website. As for David Hanni, I have nothing. Perhaps one of the MacArthur Family would have some information, or even Ed Trickett. I knew Margaret well enough to have contacted her in this regard, but that's no help now.

What a great song! Anybody know anything about Songwriter David Hanni, and when this song was written? It had to be before 1975, since Margaret MacArthur recorded it then. I wonder if Rounder/Philo still has her album available. That's not clear from their Website. I have the Ed Trickett recording of this song, and I really like it. I was going to say that it sure would be nice to have the Margaret MacArthur recording...but I see that I DO have it. I bought it in 2011 from emusic.com, but it's no longer available there. It's a lovely recording.

Anyone know where a song called WHERE IN THE WORLD HAVE THE OLD SONGS GONE? came from? I learned it from a friend 25 years ago and like it a lot but have never met anyone else who's recognized it. I think maybe it's east coast. Is it on any recordings that I don't know about? Help please...
