SARK FOLK FESTIVAL 2010 - http://www.sarkfolkfestival.com

Imagine a magical paradise island, only 5 square kilometers, surrounded by stunning picturesque scenery to rival anywhere in the world, and steeped in maritime history and folklore... An island that time forgot, with no cars; just horse-drawn carriages and bicycles as the main form transportation. A care-free land where the world moves it it's own pace and everybody is friendly.

Now imagine filling this island with hundreds of amazingly talented musicians from around the UK and France - ranging from modern singer-songwriters and contemporary bands such as Leddra Chapman and 6 Day Riot to traditional session bands and folk dancers such as Les Dieses and Loar Gann.

Add to this a wealth of impromptu music sessions, a ceilidh or two, and some glorious sunshine (probably!).

Sounds perfect doesn't it? well, from 2-4th July this is exactly what we will be doing!

The Sark Folk Festival will be taking place on the absolutely stunning Channel Island of Sark (UK) and we would like to invite you to join us for this very special event.

Further details and tickets can be found here: http://www.sarkfolkfestival.com

If you have any queries please contact: info@sarkfolkfestival.com

If sailing, how easy would it be to get a spot to moor up?

The more I think about it, the more I think I'd rather like to go.. It looks super. Artists from Normandy & Brittany, as well as the UK & Channel Islands. While I'm here I might as well add a clicky for the link:

Sark Folk Festival

Thanks Sister - I posted from my phone where clickies are too fiddly.

There is limited space in the two harbours, but plenty of room for anchoring in the lee of the island - though you may have a steep cliff climb once you row ashore (we always say Sark is lovely, it's just a shame it's so far from the sea)!

Eek, that sounds like it might be a wee bit adventurous after a cider or three...

Well, I've managed to interest one seaworthy folkie plus Catamaran. The bummer is I know nothing about boats, so he needs another seaworthy hand (who happens to fancy a folk festival in Sark).

I suspect that this might be an adventure for next year :)

Why not put a gang together and hire Pegasus skippered by Diggory Rose?

Sounds and looks idyllic - I wish I could go.

However, our ever-intolerant traddies might not find a lot to like at the festival (quoting fron the site):

"...similar ... to early Alanis Morissette and Joni Mitchell..."
"...folk-pop band ... who recently supported Seth Lakeman..."
"...singer-song-writer ... 'shimmering with sensuality in various shady cloaks of weirdness…fragility, desolation and humour'..."
"...energetic, infectious groove..."
"...Celtic group ... with their particular theatrical brand of rock-folk-jazz-cajun fusion..."

I love Sark and came for a week celebrate my 50th birthday and got mistaken for one of the locals! Sadly I can't be there this year as I have something on already but if it is going to be the same weekend next year then can I please book now?

Depends on where said catamaran was departing from (South Coast, hopefully ?) ,but I'd be up up for it, likewise Karen, although she isn't terribly nautical. Never been to Sark, but I can claim to have been forcibly ejected from an RNR minesweeper in Alderney ( long story !).

Well, the Cat's in Suffolk, though there is another smaller boat on the Medway. Looks like a no-goer for this year, but we're definitely penciling Sark into the diary for next Summer.

My Cousin Barry lives there. A bit quiet doesnt really cover it. The Barclays are buying up the island bit by bit. Eventually it will probably be completely private.

A link sent by my (non-folkie) sister who happened to be on the island a couple of days before the event.

Does indeed sound like they had a ball!
