Subject: The Chickens (Ha Seessan)
From: CarolC
Date: 26 May 10 - 02:54 PM

To start with, here are some children's songs.

English

The Chickens -

The chickens… too pretty….
Dance in a circle happily …

They drank water…. They said "khay"…. They raised their heads
Thanking their God gratefully.

They put their new clothes on… for there's a celebration…
They're very cheerful and happy…

The chickens… too pretty….
Dance in a circle happily …

The chickens… too pretty….
Dance in a circle happily …

Ha Seessan
(English Transliteration)

Ha Seessan… shoo hilwin… âm beedooroo
Hawala-inhom mabsootin…

Sheerboo may… kaloo khay… rafâoo rashom
Shacaroo rabhom mamnoonin…

Libsoo jdid… âchanhoo âid…
Killit-hom farhanin oo mabsootin…

Ha Seessan… shoo hilwin… âm beedooroo
Hawala-inhom mabsootin…

Ha Seessan… shoo hilwin… âm beedooroo
Hawala-inhom mabsootin…

This song uses any child's name, and that child's name will be the title of the song. In this case, the name being used is Lukas.

English

Ada deenoo safalakateenoo safalakateekato
Eelek beelek boom eelek beelek boom

I broke the stick, I found worms in it.
Hey stone-cutter, hey carpenter,
Bring the tools and the saw,
And meet me near the front door of the house.

Âlleek beessee oo âlleek far, Âlleek beessee oo âlleek far,

Ha ha ha!

I broke the stick, I found worms in it
Hey stone-cutter, hey carpenter,
Bring the tools and the saw,
And meet me near the front door of the house.

Âlleek beessee oo âlleek far, Âlleek beessee oo âlleek far.

English Transliteration

Lookas!

Ada deenoo safalakateenoo safalakateekato

Good songs. Thanks. I hope Azizi is watching.

What do the asterisks on "Luke" denote? I don't see them on any other proper names in the songs, and not on the transliterated Arabic for Luke, either.

Haruo

There is a note in the page saying that any child's name can be used. The asterisk alerts the reader to the presence of the note. In this case, Luke, Lukas, and Lookas are all being used in the page.

Subject: God's Place, Ah, God's Home!
From: CarolC
Date: 26 May 10 - 03:39 PM

Unfortunately there wasn't room for the Arabic transliteration of the title in the subject line for the this song.

English

God's place, ah God's home!
Butter and honey in the jug,
We're eating, we and Raffoola
And we leave Granny outside.

God's place, ah God's home!
Butter and honey in the jug,
We're eating, we and Lapoossa
And we leave Elbissi* outside.

God's place, ah God's home!
Butter and honey in the jug,
We're eating, we and Lucas
And we leave Mommy outside.

God's place, ah God's home!
Butter and honey in the jug,
We're eating, we and Lapoossa
And we leave Daddy outside.

(Note on the page relating to the asterisk: *We believe this means "grandpa".)

Heejja Allah, ya beeta allah
(English Transliteration)

Heejja Allah, ya beeta allah
Samn oo âssal beeljarra
Nookeel eehna oo Raffoola
W'eenkhallee Teeta barra

Heejja Allah, ya beeta allah
