Picked up a flyer at Shepley Spring Festival.
Time Gentlemen Please by the Demon Barber Roadshow, at the Theatre Royal, Wakefield (UK), 24 June 2010 - looks like a interesting show.
Tagline is "Think Riverdance with a false moustache and Stomp with bells on"
Ducks are hoping to get there to see it.
Quack!
Geoff the Duck.

No more shows in the diary for the forseeable future I'm afraid. York's not far from Wakey though!

"Interesting"? That's an understatement Geoff! Exhilarating, exhausting to watch - where DO they get the energy from. Saw them at Sidmouth a few years back, and was blown away by them. Wish I could come again, but too far away!
Do let us know how you get on!

Tattie - I should hope so. As for this show, all I really know about this show is what is on the flyer and web link. It doesn't give much of a clue, but sounds interesting. I have no idea what to expect other than there will be dancing involved.
Only a few hours to go before I find out.
Quack!
GtD.

I went to Leeds for the premier. It was fabulous. There are all sorts of surprises that I won't spoil for you, but the idea of the show is that it brings together traditional/folk dance with urban street dance (arguably the folk dance of the 21st century...?). The central construct is that the folk dancers and the street dancers meet up down their local...and the resultant dance mash-up is by turns funny, inspired, breathtaking and brilliant. Expect some novel takes on folk dances you think you know - and if you're not particularly keen on or conversant with street dance, I suspect you may walk away from the show with a whole new respect for that genre. I certainly did.

Saw the premiere and interviewed Damo on the radio about this.

There are some changes to the original - so do get along and see this "new" show.

I have not met anyone who has been to see it who has not just enjoyed it but also been amazed!

P.S. Maybe it's easier just to cut and past the details of their Crawley Folk Festival show at The Hawth. It starts early, at 5.00 pm.

Sun 26 June 5pm, Theatre

Time Gentlemen Please!
featuring The Demon Barber Roadshow

Winners of Best Live Act at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards 2009, The Demon Barbers brought together some of England's most exciting young traditional dancers to create a high energy spectacular.

Now they take a further step and invite three young hip hop dancers for a night out at their local pub 'The Fighting Cocks'.

Clog, Rapper Sword and Morris meet B-boying, Popping and Krump in this humourous and unmissable visual feast. Think Riverdance with a false moustache or Stomp with bells on!

'One of the best live bands I've ever seen. If you get a chance to see them - don't miss it - brilliant' Mike Harding, BBC Radio 2

Tickets: £16

Discounts (which apply to all festival events): Child, student, over 60, Hawth Friends, unemployed, parties: £10% off any ticket.

Festival Special Offer: Book for 2 shows: 10% off, book for 3 shows: 20% off

Of course, there's lots of other goodies on offer at the festival - free performances, workshops, food stands, craft stalls and demonstrations in Morris and traditional folk dance, plus:

The Beer Festival
With over 50 varieties of beers, ciders and perries from local breweries to choose from, make sure you take a break from the music to sample a pint! Entry to the beer festival is completely free and is open Fri from 4pm and Sat & Sun from 11am. To view the provisional beer list, click here.

Don't forget that if you really want to get into the festival spirit, we have great on-site camping facilities from just £10 and as always, under 12s go free. So why not bring the whole family along!

Ah, sorry, I'm sure we probably tried for a Manchestery venue but there might not have been any takers. I guess Wakefiled's probably your nearest too far away one!

Hello,

Just a reminder that we are about to embark on our first proper tour with the new show. First stop Friday 16th in Barrow-in-Furness. We did a couple last weekend but this is the start of the real road trip!

We are being supported by local dance sides who are coming to perform before the shows.

Full details can be found here:
Time Gentlemen Please!

Or here:
Time Gentlemen Please on Facebook

Hope you can make it,
Bryony
