Hi to anyone interested in writing songs...
We have arranged another Songwriting Evening at 8pm Monday 21st June, 2010 at Grimsby British Legion, Friargate House, Cartergate, Grimsby DN31 1QZ
It is the 3rd such evening but is open to all, whether or not you have been before. For anyone interested in songwriting whether beginner or experienced writer.
The theme for the evening will be song structure. There will be a brief introduction and then, opportunity for individuals to work on their own, (or given examples, if preferred,) in groups or solo. Very informal.
Free evening but we ask for donations to cover the hire of the room. (Maximum of £1.50 and it is optional.)
For more info, please message me. Thanks!

That was a very productive and enjoyable evening. For those who weren't there, we focussed on a couple of poems written by one of our group and chopped, amended and recombined his words to give possible lyrics or create a chorus. Some made a first attempt at setting these to music. It was interesting to hear the range and variety of results from a small group of people, each of which retained the essential spirit of the original poems.

As someone with only limited experience of songwriting, I'm looking forward to future evenings like this.

I enjoyed it, too, Doug. Loved the Volcanic Ash Blues btw! Eddie's song was another highlight for me. It is really interesting, as you say, to hear how different people approach things. It is making me consider more ways of writing and try new methods of starting songs.
