Two wonderful performers - Jeni Hankins and Billy Kemp will be touring in the UK this summer. Their first gig is this coming Sunday, June 6th in Hebden Bridge and they'll be traveling till early July, ending up in Wales. You can see the full tour on their website - but they're passing through Hull, Beverly, Birmingham, Barnsley, York, and Cornwall. I would urge all who can to go and see them. We had them at Richmond Folk Music this spring and they are superb - very genuine and down to earth. Jeni was raised in a coal mining community Tazewell County, Virginia, and draws much of her songwriting inspiration from these roots. She is a skillful storyteller, and her songs and stories evoke a real sense of the place where she grew up. They sing traditional songs too - check out some of their song samples, especially "Pretty Fair Miss". Jeni is also a quilter, and may bring some samples of quilts made by her and her family. Try to catch themi if they're playing near you - you'll really enjoy them.
