Round 6 appears to be about full up - and I'm trying to get away from the Evil Queen Bess - so I thought I'd just up and move the Tavern. Hope you all found your way from there: Previous Tavern

And a fine tavern it is too.

Who is that derelict in the corner with the cardboard shoes, threadbare shirt and Washburn guitar (strangely in excellent condition) on his lap?

Hey, MM, I almost missed the bus! I had transportation problems this morning (Netscape kept shutting down & my modem was suffering from excessive heat & humidity!) & they made me late to work! I think you needed a caffeine hit? How's the super-machine today? Hi, Neil, nice to see you! I understand you're trying to lure MM into joining the group in the sound-proof discussion room we just added. What can I get for you? I understand there's a new rule that we have to serve non-humans of the marsupial variety now, but I'm *not* letting him use the indoor facilities, if you catch my drift. See that bush outside the back door? Please direct him over there, when he starts getting squirmy.

bbc - thanks. The miraculous-whiz-bang-wonder-all-in-one-caffiene machine seems to be doing well. (Except the expresso bean dispenser just keeps giving me capsules with the following message inside:You have overdrawn your limit at the bean bank. [signed]Counter)

Cleigh - cut it out! Stop that! *whisper/on* Oh, sorry, just to the left there...yes, I'll hold your seat. What do you mean it's too public? Go BEHIND the bloody bush! *whisper/off*

Anyone tuned into the story thread recently...It's been giving me goosebumps...or I'm into caffiene deprivation again, one or the other.

I've been watching and marvelling at the abilities of your super-duper coffee/expresso/latte/panther piss machine. Can it serve my favourite go-go juice? ... Vietnamese ice coffee? The six cups of Columbian dark i've had so far today don't seem to do satisfy my craving for a caffeine fix. And while I'm here, do yas all mind if I try out this new set of mismatched hubcaps I picked up while searching for the wire wheel cover that fell off my car last week? I'll play as quietly as the hubcaps will allow. Hey, cleigh, get off my leg and use the bush!

Hope everyone who gets there has a good time at annap's!

Hey, boys, thanks for your help w/ Cleigh! He is a bit on the frisky side. Who does that remind us of? Yes, Bob, you can get Vietnamese ice coffee from the machine. You may need to experiment a little--you know, push a couple of buttons at the same time, hold one down--that kind of thing, but I'm sure it will give you what you need. It's a fine machine! Let's see, who else is in here now?

Hi, glad to have the chance to stop in. It has been a hell of a day! Soon as Bob is done, I'm going to fill a demitasse about half full of sugar and fill it up the rest of the way with that dark roast stuff that just came in from Incognito. But while I'm waiting my turn, about three fingers of George Dickel's finest will do nicely. I can't stay very long. I have to get back to work. The semester is about to begin and there are piles of stuff to be done scattered all over the darn place. I have been staying late the past few nights and will be there all weekend as well. I would much rather hang around here or drive up to Annap's.

Tell me please, does that guy over there ever play any music on that thing or is he just holding onto it with the hope that its value will somehow appreciate?

Hey, there, Fadac. Good to see you! Did you want regular or something fancier? There's Bob going back to join his friends at the table, so I guess the miracle machine is free. Boy, Allan, it's tough working for a living, ain't it? Here's your drink & I'll bring the demitasse right over. Like it that way, myself. Enough sugar to make the spoon stand up. Sorry you can't join us at annap's. We'll sing one for you. Did I mention that from Monday till the 23rd, I'll be off? Yeah, family obligations down in Missouri. Hope LEJ can get coverage for me. I hate to leave you guys. Relax a little while before you head back to work, Allan. You know what they say. Take care!

Learned to drink it that way in Brazil. That's how they usually take it. (The Dickel is my own idea.) A poor man's Brazilian breakfast is a demitasse and a pozinho (don't know how the heck you make a tilde ~ go where it is supposed to go!) which is like a seven inch long loaf of French bread. That gets them through until lunch which is normally black beans and rice. Man! I'm getting hungry just thinking about it. I really loved the food there. I don't suppose you'd have any...naw I guess not.

I, too, am trying to conjure up a sonic image of an ocarina orchestra. I have seen about fifteen recorders playing at one time but this had to beat that. Do tell us more!

bbc, give Cape Girardo a wave if you get in that general neighborhood. I have never been there but it is a place I have been wanting to visit. You know how there are certain things or places that just sort of call to you? That is one of mine.

Heck, bbc, I guess I'll have to call Cyber-temps to get a replacement for you till you get back.

And Jasper, I don't have a clue about the guy in the corner. While ago he tuned up the Washburn and played a couple bars of Wildwood Flower. Pretty well, too. Maybe Neil knows him, since he paid for three rounds of Jim Beam neat for him.

Allan, we do have a pot of black beans with rice and peppers going in the kitchen. You want tortillas or brown bread with it?

Somebody find Catspaw, I just peed on his damn possum. He's got to teach him to quit drinking from the toilet. No wonder they never evolved. Barabra, can you make him a water dish or something? I need about a gross of bandaids too. You ever try to rinse off a possum who didn't want to get any wetter? The teeth reach all the way to the tail. bbc, if I may, I think I need some possum bite medicine. What do you suggest? Dave

I'll have to admit, that guy seems to know how to play pretty well. But I am sure I never heard Wildwood Flower played using a minor key before. Y'all have a good night. I hope I have a chance to stop in again sometime soon. G'night.

Gee, Dave, I'm sorry! I don't wanna say I told ya so, but I was afraid that 'possum was gonna get out of hand. We may have to let spaw know that Cleigh can only come if he's escorted by a human. I bet I upset him when I said he couldn't deposit his little 'possum poops there (Hear that, Art? Poops!). Guess he thought he'd get back at me. Sorry you got caught in the crossfire, so to speak. Maybe I'd better keep my voice down. You know, we have a very strong pro-'possum lobby in this area. Yeah, this fellow has friends in high places. I heard he slept in the Lincoln bedroom. Yeah, really! Let's see. I've never treated 'possum bite before. Is kat around? Maybe she or Wyo Woman can field that one.

Neil, thanks for the kind words. I try to do my job. We've got good folks here, so it's not hard. LEJ, watch that Cyber-Temp service. I hear they send out automatons. BTW, I'm not leaving till Monday; don't throw me out yet!

bbc- My worries are over! Cyber-temps is sending over a girl named Mona, who they assure me is "very experienced" and apparently works part-time as a model. When I asked if she was a hard worker, they assured me she had been a working girl since she was 16. So it looks like we'll be well taken care of.

Hmmm possum bite? seems like some of that neat whiskey would do nicely, I know, what a waste, but it'll sterilize the, um, well anyway. I'd suggest that. Say, BBC has anybody figured out the buttons on that machienn for decaf espressoo? I know, I know, what's the point, but I want that eintense coffee flavour, and I want to sleep tonight. Just went out for a big dinner, and they brought me a birthday creme brulle and it kind of put me over the edge. I can hardly belly up to the bar/computer now.

Hi Cleigh, yes, I thought you might like me. I don't drive one of those big mean cars, yes, but you can NOT have any of my espresso. It'l just make you head for the bush again. Now STOP THAT!!

Oh, Susan, I'm so glad you stopped in! Naturally, the expresso's on the house. Hey, everybody, gather 'round & sing "Happy Birthday" to Susan! Hey, Leej, can you bring in the cake (Yes, I know you had one already, but not w/ your Mudcat family!). Just don't let Cleigh put his tail across it. OK, there's not too many candles for one blow. Yes! What a great way to spend a Friday the 13th birthday! Who's got a song for Susan? Hugs & kisses all around! (BTW, did ya hafta cook on your birthday?). I'll just wait on a few customers & check back with you soon.

Well, it is Friday the 13th after all. Yes, I did cook, with produce delivered two hours late and a batch of moldy fylo dough, but I did get two renditions of Happy Birthday over the phone, flowers, and a tiny set of pan pipes, and dinner got cooked, and I sold it all, and went out for a lovely dinner. AND cake at the mudcat Tavern, and a little singed possum and possum-tail fireworks, and well, it's been quite a day.

I think I'll take your advice. bbc, may I please have a lead wristed splash of Laphroaig, which I will take internally and let it work its magic from the inside out. Also bbc, I just stepped into the photo gallery and was mightily impressed at the work you and David have done. So many new photos and additions to old pages. Great work both of you. "I am woman--W O M A N! I can bake up the whatever & still be something blah blah for my man."
You get the idea. I can serve in here & still whip off those webpages. Glad you like it. We're having fun doing it. When school starts, though, I'm afraid I may not be whipping them off quite as fast. Speaking of whipping things off, would some of you gentlemen have a chat w/ my boss. I'm wondering if I should be insulted that he seems to be replacing me w/ a lady of the evening? Is he casting aspersions on my character, do you think, or expressing a preference in the kind of "help" he'd like around here? I suppose I could give my notice earlier than Labor Day, if he'd rather have Mona.

We don't get a lot of possums in these parts, mostly badgers and errant antelope (the woist kind). However, that vile black stuff has always worked for badger bites, so I"m recommending it for possum nibbles as well. And I'll have a taste for myself -- it's been such a week. But, Dave, can you blame the poor ol' possum? I mean, how would you feel if someone annointed YOUR head with ...

Well, you know.

Boy, we are really losing it! I realized, during the night that that 'possum wasn't Cleigh, after all! catspaw told us clearly that he & Karen *and* Cleigh would be away this weekend, picking up the boys. That critter over there is nothing but a Cleigh wannabee that wandered in off the street. Kick him out if he acts up! And Leej, you've got a real problem, if you're seeing catspaw when he's not even here! I think we've been mixing that punch at the bar too strong!!!

Anyway, I came by early today to drop off some of my homemade breakfast cookies. I'm taking the rest to annap's to share w/ Max & the other folks there. I hear Jeri drove down from NH last night. Won't she be surprised when she sees her tune on that new thread?! If you want the recipe for the cookies, I can probably post it on my homepage. You guys take care & have a good day! Peter T.: Stanley Kubrick is one of my favorite directors, alongside Jim Jarmusch (sp?). Was the movie not to your liking? Please don't tell me that the final film by a director whose technique with cinematography made me always think of dancing left that bad of a taste in your mouth? That would be a solemn disappointment indeed.

Banjer, if you want a repeat performance of a poor imitation of Foshter Brooksh you'll have to wait until next Friday when I have a little help from my old drinkin' buddy Jim Beam. But you could probably lay down some righteous licks behind the rousing soliloquy from Firesign Theatre's The American Pageant: Go to the people.....Ask the hands that serve the machines of America...Ask these thousands of folks here who wouldn't say "no" to yesterday or "yes" instead of knowing it all....

bbc: coffee, please, served - how was it described in a previous post? _ "Sunday Morning" style, was it? Thank you.

And LEJ...buddy, you'd best give bbc a raise, or whatever she wants to keep her from bailing. There's not too many waitresses and servers who'd put up with the sort of clientele your tavern attracts, if you know what I mean. Forget this Mona thing. She may have talents as befitting a working girl...but I'll lay odds she won't bring homemade cookies to the Tavern on a Sunday morning, no less...that's dedication. I don't know about you, but the older I get the more it means to me to be around someone who knows her way around a kitchen rather than a bedroom.....which reminds me- stop me if you've heard this one:

Two old fishing buddies are walking down to the lake when a frog jumps out into the path.
"A wicked witch put a spell on me and if one of you will kiss me I will turn into a beautiful princess and I will fulfill every desire and fantasy you have."
The two old men thought about this for a while. Finally one turns to the other and says:
"Well, what about it? Are you going to give it a kiss?"
"No," the other replies, "at my age I think I'd get more fun out of a talking frog."

I will take care of this problem..........OK, OK. Here goes.........Your man Clancy is driving around Dublin when he realizes he is short of the petrol. He pulls into the filling station and when yer man comes out he says "Would you mind fillin' it with petrol?". Yer man sez, "We don't sell no petrol here". Clancy looks up to the sign with a puzzled look and then sez, "Well then, would you mind checking the oil?". The young fella looks around cautiously, then whispers to yer man, "Clancy, boyo, we don't sell petrol and we don't check oil.....You see, we are a front for the IRA".........Clancy thinks for a moment and sez, "Well, in that case, would ya mind blowin' up the tires?".........TADDDDDDDAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA............

I don't know why everyone's so upset about Mona. She showed up last night for about 2 hours and did just fine. She is indeed a part time model for Clairol's Sophisticated Senior Hair Rinses. She told me that she had been a hard working girl since the age of 16 when she took a job at the cosmetics counter at Woolworth's 56 years ago. She's very sweet, in fact she reminds me of my Mom. I am having a hard time watching my language around her, though.

Mick, Just went through the fiftieth thing with my parents, 120 people on the hottest godforsaken day of the summer (we aren't USED to this in Vermont). It ended up biing a lot of fun despite some prety chaotic planning on the part of the siblings (we had very different ideas about how to organize the food, at least they all agreed that I should not cater it, and Mom had very different ideas about the guest list,) but we made it work. Good luck. Just make sure there's lots of the black vile stuff at the party (all of my family, alas, goes for pale, watered down beer. Whimps!!

Hi, guys! Just wanted to stop in to say goodnight. We had a great day at annap's. Her gazebo on the river just down a street & across the street from the Atlantic Ocean is an extremely peaceful, appealing spot. Comfortable, too! Even though it was a hot, humid day, it was very pleasant chatting, eating, & making music there. There were 9 Mudcatters there--annap, folk1234 in from Oklahoma (!), Jeri (down from New Hampshire), dick greenhaus, Susan of DT, Duane D., davidmc24, me, *AND* Max himself!!! folk1234 & Max were friends I was meeting for the first time. It was great spending time with both of them and with the others. David got some new photos, so keep your eyes open!

You're right, Neil, looks like LEJ set us up. Think he planned it from the beginning or just came up with it as things progressed? Low blow, boss! Neil, you, on the other hand, are a gentleman & an scholar! Thanks so much for your support. You can have that coffee now whatever way you like it!

'Morning, Bron! Coffe & bacon butty, coming right up. Ummm...that's sounds good! Maybe I'll sit down & join you for a few minutes. Yes, that gazebo at anna'a really *is* special. She told me that, after the first gathering, but I guess I needed to see it for myself. Have you ever been someplace where--as soon as you arrived--you just immediately relaxed? Kind of an aaaaaaaaah reaction? That's how it is at anna's. Just beautiful! I know some folks stayed over--at least folk1234 & Jeri, maybe even Max. I'm sure they'll have a good time today, too!

Is Neil still around? Friend, I'm not sure who I'm more worried about--you or myself. When you said you'd lost a day, it took me ages to figure out that you had complimented me on Sunday cookies *yesterday*. Well, com on in for some more today! That recipe ages well!

WE ARE WATCHING!

we have received information that very disturbing events are occurring here involving one of our own. Are you aware that graven images of US are being held up for ridicule? We monitor ALL possum related postings on your primitive 'internet', and the indignities suffered by even a clay image of our highly evolved selves is a potential affront to a race that may be the ones to save YOU from inner-galactic menace! DO YOU DOUBT? Go to this place of knowlege and learn!

Remember, our Council of Three will be watching.

Jaysuz, I almost choked on my gardenburger. Why is it I keep thinking of money-making schemes related to the entire Possum Planet? I want a tee shirt with the Council of Three on it?

In the Mudcat Tavern Boutique???

Please?

WW

(bbc crawls out from behind the bar, peers cautiously over the edge, & pushes a glass toward Bill D) Whispers "Hi, Bill, just checking for the possum patrol. Does it look clear out there at the moment?" Whew! It's been getting a little scary around here today--posting from aliens & all. I'm just as glad I'm leaving on vacation tomorrow. Let Leej & Mona handle it. He deserved it after stringing us along w/ that "working girl" line! Still, Mick probably shouldn't have threatened to shoot. Oh, well, it'll probably sort itself out. Let me know what happens while I'm away, will you, Bill? And tell everybody I'll be back on the 23rd. Thanks! Fill it up again? You got it!

Morning each. I don't know, I have a long weekend in rehab in the Neal Young Centre (Center!) and the possums take over the world!
The boss has been reading all about the Edinburgh Festival ( I think the Danii Minogue topless Lady Macbeth has inspired him) so he's sent over a load of Dundee marmalade flavoured jello with just a hint of Dalmore.
Try it and let us know what you think I enjoyed an evening of jazz and fireworks on Saturday. One band even provided an extra treat; as well as the regular banjo player their reeds man also played banjo so they did a duet on "Margie", what the leader called "Droolin' banjos": could he have been eavesdropping on the Mudcat?
What are we ggoing to do about these possums? Feed 'em (what do they eat?)or call the exterminator?

While I was sipping my morning Metaxas and trying not to step in the possum poo I was looking at the events on the Tavern noticeboard, quite a lot of activities I see. I don't think the strip croquet league or underwater synchronised scrabble is quite my scene and the waiting lists for the jello wrestling and velcro jumping are way too long, but the All-comers Gutbarging looks just the thing that nature and over half a century of overindulgence has equipped me for. The Mudcat picture gallery seems to suggest stiff competition though, good job there are weight categories. Will it take place in the jello pool? What is the Cleigh O'Possum trophy that the winner gets? Not a gold plated possum chip I hope. Well I'll put my name down for the eliminators and see how I get on.

On the Orcarania Orchistra. Well this fellow at the Lark camp went into a 2nd hand store one day and asked, "Do you have any musical instruments?" The shop keeper said "No, but I have a box of orcarnias." So he got this box for cheep. Inside was a ton of cheep plastic orcaranas and some nice clay ones. Like a Bass, Baratone, Altos and a picialo (Please forgive my spelling Bseed, I havn't had my 6th coffee yet.)

Anyway I have to get a new keyboard for the Mac, and I'll try and do a capture of some of the video I shot. Then Perhaps one of the tunes. then maybe Max will put them someplace where you can download them and listin to this very erie sound. 6-9 orcaranas all playing more less together. I'll tell you they sounded much better when I videoed them, rather than trying to play along.

More coffee!
