This year the dates of Hull Shanty Festival - now known as Hull Maritime Festival, shift to July 17th and 18th to coincide with the end of the Round-the World Clipper Races.

Les,
Has this been advertised anywhere? I live in Hull and I've only heard rumours. How the hell are the usual international community who attend going to get organised? Who's booked?

There's also the little problem of the waterways festival at Leeds the same weekend which many of us who crew the boats are already booked in for. What a bloody shambles! In direct contrast to last year's wonderful events.

Is this the one Shanty Jack has a big hand in?

Steve - I'd heard the rumours so we went to the Tourist Office yesterday to find out. It was only confirmed about a week ago. I thought I'd better put it up on Mudcat so that people here find out what's happening. Lots of people turned up to see these boats off, so I doubt we'll get near the pubs to do our singing. I agree - a complete lash-up.

Arthur - yes.

I doubt if they'll get any of those large shanty groups or fishermen's choirs at this late stage. Even the usual suspects may have bookings elsewhere. Are there any other maritime festivals the same weekend? I bet Pete's not best pleased.

While I'm on, Yorkshire Watterways Museum are holding a mini festival the following weekend to celebrate 100 years of Sobriety,(That's their Sheffield-size keel not the abstract noun!)
There are free sessions on the Saturday and Sunday afternoons and concerts on the night times with the likes of Pegleg Ferret, Mick Mcgarry's latest group and Roger Knowles and Bill Sables. More details anon.
