"From the fiercely traditional to the frankly eccentric"

The Islington Folk Club is holding, for the second year, a competition across the World Wide Web for unaccompanied solo singers. Entry is free and videos should be posted to YouTube and the URL sent to trad2mad@islingtonfolkclub.co.uk by 31 October 2010. Two of this year's winners have already been booked at the club. To open our autumn season we are pleased to present trad2mad winner Maz O'Connor with Matthew Jones on Thursday 2 September.

1st prize £100
2nd prize £50
3rd prize £25

Rules
1.        Singers must be solo and unaccompanied.
2.        The song should be introduced with the singer's name, the song title, and the words 'This is my entry for the 2010 Islington Folk Club trad2mad competition'.
3.        The complete performance, including introduction, should last no more than 4 minutes. This limit will be strictly enforced.
4.        The file name should include singer's name, song title and 'trad2mad'. Some indication of source - ie the person, event, recording, broadcast or book from which the singer learned the song - should be given in the YouTube description field.
5.         Only one song may be entered per person.
6.        The trad2mad e-mail address (trad2mad@islingtonfolkclub.co.uk) will be available up to the closing date, 31 October 2010.
7.        The results will be posted in December 2010 and announced at the Islington Folk Club Christmas party on 16 December 2010.
8.        Entry is free.
9.        Prizes will be paid by a sterling cheque drawn on a British bank.

Ah, yes I missed it too & would have loved to be involved.

Perhaps if it happens next year & is posted here, someone could refresh it occasionally until the competition end date?

Sounds great, good luck to all on the shortlist....

The 2011 competition is now open for entries. The only strict rule is solo, unaccompanied singing.
Full details here.
Probably of most interest to UK-based catters, but there are no geographical limits in the rules.
Closing date for entries is 31st October 2011.
Go on, have a go. You know you want to!
Garry

Sounds fun. Thank you for refreshing. It would be a shame if this were meant to be "across the World Wide Web" and only a small slice of people within limited earshot knew to do it.

Two things I'm not clear on:
1) Is this for English singers only?
2) What range of song style/genre are we talking about here? Like, can we sing blues? Original songs? etc.
thanks and cheers

The title of the competition is "Trad2mad". This refers to the wide range of material that is performed at Islington Folk Club from the tradition to the eccentric. Any genre/style will be welcome and considered on it's merits. I also believe it is NOT limited to English singers.
Likewise it's a "Yes" to original songs, blues, etc. Only strict rules are solo and unaccompanied.

Good luck to all who've entered! Any links??
