Subject: session in Orlando? From: GUEST,fogie Date: 07 Jun 10 - 02:53 AM Later this year before Xmas I'm hoping to spend three months in Orlando Florida with my partner who has a house there. I'd like to meet up with musicians who might be interested in playing music -I play British and European and a bit of klezmer on the 2.5 row diatonic, but also sing with guitar -standard trad English a la Nic Jones /Stan Rogers etc. and play a bit of saxophone. Quite apart from this I used to play a lot of rock and pop from the 60-70s. Have any locals got ideas as to where musicians meet up? I havent got anything against Irish sessions -it's just I played Irish for 15 years and it burnt a hole in my brain -but still like slow stuff. |

Subject: RE: session in Orlando? From: Charley Noble Date: 10 Jun 10 - 10:17 AM No, most of the old folkies migrate north this time of year. But they really should be still checking in here at Mudcat Central. Be patient. Cheerily, Charley Noble |

In fact, he moved just before I got around to visiting Orlando - is there a message there? I'll e-mail him and see if he has some hints. Mudcatter Troll used to be involved in folk music in Gainesville, but I haven't heard from Troll in years. Lots of folk music in Sarasota, and it's a much nicer place. -Joe- |
Subject: RE: session in Orlando? From: GUEST,Abby Sale Date: 11 Jun 10 - 09:19 AM Hi, Joe. Sorry to have missed you. Stop by if you get to Raleigh, NC. We moved to Raleigh just four years ago, as you know. Central Florida Folk, Inc. is on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/profile.php?id=100000506670056&ref=ts Messages can be left. Pres. is Barry Brogan, cffi@bellsouth.net He recommends good pages at www.cffolk.org and click on the Events button to see folk music events in the Central Florida area. Especially note tabs: Song Circle and Open Mics and click on Area Calendar of Events link below. That should get you going. True, there's more Trad/Folk music in Sarasota but Orlando is. I believe, still rife with sessions, jams, clubs, open mikes. The Central Florida area (say, within a 40-minute drive) provides many more. |
