Subject: Folklore: MANCHESTER SPORTS GUILD 1960's
From: GUEST,Trevor Colluney UK

I WAS HOPING THAT THE ELDERS OF THIS GROUP MAY HAVE SOME SINGULAR OR
COLLECTIVE MEMORY

I have been putting together an idea which I have passed about concerning the MSG ( Sports Guild ) Manchester in the 60's -70's --- I have little other than the odd anecdotal ( sometimes embellished ) well honed tales of these formative days. There were many folkies who started their lifetime journeys from their performances at the singers nights.--------.Christy Moore recalls the following from his time in Manchester. ------ Tom & Smiley, Tony & Arthur,Marie Little,Rosie Hardman, Mike Harding, Tony Downes, Bernard Wrigley, The Oldham Tinkers, The Beggarmen, The Valley Folk, The Penine
Folk , Harry Boardman,, Mary Asquith to name a few.--- and of course there are hundreds more.

. I will get to the point ----------- can anyone provide me with their
recollections / anecdotes . I know from my talking to others that the "old greys" still playing would be interested in a "one off" MSG concert sometime before our knees and arthritic fingers can claw hammer or our voices can't croak any more.

I remember playing there with Robin & Barry Dransfield back in the 60s. A great club.

If you search on here, you’ll find that there was some sort of get-together several years ago.
