Lat summer in Cornwall more or less finished on June 2. This year, we had three barbecues last week and, now that the clan has gone home, we've just had two lovely evenings sitting outdoors as the sun went down. By the firepit... The icing on the cake was my discovery of a lovely Portuguese red wine from the Alentijo region...

I was born in June. June is brilliant sunshine but the eye of heaven is not yet too hot. The summer flowers are out but the hedgerows don't turn rank until at least the end of the month. The plant growth is lusty but green and colourful, not yet browning. June is rose month. A June girl has dark straight hair, clear brown eyes and a sharp but loving mind (stop me somebody). She wears bright red and her skin glows luminous but she's always seen against a brilliant blue sky backdrop. If you want to know what a June boy is like, you'll have to ask a June girl.

Is there anything there about lightning bugs? I looked out the back window this evening and saw lightning bugs floating over the backyard. If you have never seen this, it looks like small yellow lights flying silently in the air.

(Other places have white ones, not yellow.)
