My hubby and I are having a baby in September. I'm a singer and am looking forward to singing to my baby and I'd like to learn a few songs in preparation.

I love the "Canny at night" lullaby...but can't think of many more. Was hoping people could suggest their favourite lullabies or baby songs.

Thanks,
Em

Thanks. Any ideas of where to find the music would be cool as well (lyrics are easier to find).
Em x

don't wait til the baby "comes out" to sing to "it"
just the sound of your voice will comfort the child,
as it will have been hearing you for 9 months now...

stay away from the "cradle crashing down from the tree" (Brahms)

just put "lullaby" in the search box and you will find over a hundred
songs-- many have chords and midi files

and many many more discussions about this topic

good luck and hope all goes well with your birth and lullabies!

Here are a couple of my favorites:

Ca' the Yowes
(you can hear this sung by Andy M. Stewart here)

Hey Ho, Little Fishie

This lullaby was sung by Spencer Tracy, accompanied by hurdy gurdy, in Captains Courageous. Strangely YouTube will not dish this up in English, but I found a version dubbed in Italian...the tune is the same. I hope that's enough for you to get it!

October Winds (Castle of Dromore) is one of my favorites, and I'm sure it's in the db here.
There's also a song my mother used to sing to me, "Baby's boat is a silver dream, sailing o'er the sky.." not sure if that's here; I think it was originally a show tune.

I was singing the granddaughter to sleep the other night and she started nodding off during Ranzo, Ranzo.

Not wanting to change the tune I just kept making up words.

Ever see a grumpy baby, crying in the corner
baby, baby, go to sleep
Ever see a grumpy baby, crying in the corner
baby, baby, go to sleep

Ever see a happy baby, smiling for her grandma...

Ever see pretty baby, flirting with her grandpa...

Ever see a tired baby, sleeping on her pillow...

Just make up your own 'till the little buggers fall asleep.

Of course you can sing anything if you sing it quietly.

The Ash Grove
All through the night
Chibaba Chibaba Chiwawa
Go to sleep my baby

Here's another of mine

The Band Played Waltzing Matilda
Woad
Kathleen
Until we meet again
