I agree that your Icelandic folk music is wonderful! But I imagine the Celtic stuff is in great demand at home.

hi Skarpi, I'm a long term mudcat irritant entity existing here under so many nom de plumes
in the last who knows how many years..

"Louvisur 1929" is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard from
a mudcat music artist.

some of the other songs are a bit middle of the road mundane soft folk
wishy washy english language celtic tripe.

but "Louvisur 1929" is absolutey everything I want to hear from other
more creative cultures.

Please drop the cod celtic and celebrate your own genuine better own language culture songs.

I'd be so privilaged if my band could open a gig in support for yours.

Cold, clean, water. No tea. No coffee. No chocolate. Pure water, for remember the old song:

I'm alone, all alone, my friends all have fled
My father's a drunkard, my mother is dead.
I'm a poor little girl, I wonder and weep
For the voice of my mother to sing me to sleep.
She sleeps on the hill, in a bed made of clay
How cold it did seem to lay mother away.
She's gone with the angels, and none do I see
So dear as the face of my mother to me.

cho: I'm a little lone girl in this cold world so wild,
God look down and pity the drunkard's lone child.
Look down and pity, Oh soon come to me
Take me to dwell with mother and Thee.

We were so happy till father drank rum;
Then aII our sorrows and troubles begun.
Mother grew paler and wept every day;
Baby and I were too hungry to pIay.
SIowIy they faded and one summer night
Found their sweet faces aIl silent and white
And with big tears sIowIy dropping I said,
"Father's a drunkard and mother is dead."

Oh, if some temperance workers could find
Poor wretched father and speak very kind,
If they could stop him from drinking, why then,
I would feel very happy again.
Is it too Iate? Men of temperance, please try,
For poor littIe Bessie will soon starve and die.
All day Iong I've been begging for bread.
Father's a drunkard and mother is dead.

Of course, Skarpi, if you happened to bring some of that wine along and we happened to meet in a place where I could try it, why it would be a total lack of hospitality to refuse....

My band is playing at a pirate festival next weekend . . . so we are not so different. You bring the brennevin, and I'll bring the rum (but not to the Getaway of course, because there we will all be demurely sipping endless cups of tea).

The whole Viking Vlllage sounds like fun, Skarpi -- wish I could be there, rediscovering my Nordic roots.

One question, though: what is "black death schnapps"?

That's wonderful news, Skarpi! I love the first CD and my grandson loves it, wants to hear it quite often. Can't wait to hear the next one. Congratulations in keeping on and reaching the rewards. I can *see* you all traveling the world and bringing your music to all peoples. It is wonderful!

Hallo all , My band Rósin Okkar /Our Rose is playing in a viking festival In Iceland for the first time , we also open the Reykjavík folk festival in February , and we are playing on a whale watching ship
, or on sea for the first time this coming week .

it looks like our faith on what we are doing is paying off :)
We are a concert band , and we are about to finish up a cd number
two , we are on myspace.com/rosinokkar and one video is on youtupe
on 3 of July we will have concert / session in North west
of Iceland .

My dream is taking the band out to the world sometime and play
our music .

We just finished few month ago making lyric with David Okley ( Cara )
song " the mayfly " in Icelandic and we played in Feb at the festival
now David have heard our version of it :O) , I have ready 13 song s
in Icelandic wich I have started to record in studio but I have to do it slow until I get a proper job again :O) but it will be there .

I also will do one with Irish songs ....some of you have already
heard one recording of that one ( a demo ) .

so thats the news of the Islander , in the land of volcanic crisis .

p.s I am saving money to make me way to the world in the Autumnn
I jope it works ,,,thats my faith .

all the best from Skarpi Iceland .
