Subject: Ted Alevizos - Greek Byzantine chants
From: Thomas Stern
Date: 15 Jun 10 - 08:37 PM

Ted Alevizos, well known for his recordings of Greek folksongs
and his appearance with Joan Baez and Bill Wood on the
Folksingers 'Round Harvard Square LP,
recorded a couple of CD's ofr Byzantine Chants for Christmas
and Easter.
The Easter cd is a pressed cd, the copy of the Christmas cd I've seen
is a CD-R.
Does anyone know if the Christmas cd was ever issued as a
pressed CD?
Thanks.
Best wishes, Thomas.

Does he chant all by himself? With an ison? A backing choir? I have something of a personal interest in Orthodox chant, you might say. Greek/Byzantine chant, when done well, can be breathtaking. Unfortunately most church choirs do it passably at best, and it's rather uninspiring.

They are sung unaccompanied. Stark, beautiful!
Thomas.
