Subject: Borderline Picnic & Singing Party - 8/29
From: Rabbi-Sol
Date: 16 Jun 10 - 01:32 PM

On Sunday, August 29th the Borderline Folk Music Club will present its annual Picnic & Singing Party from 12:00 noon until
6:00 PM at the outdoor area of the New City Volunteer Ambulance Corps, located at 200 - Congers Road in New City, NY 10956.
Admission is FREE but we ask that you make reservations and tell us in advance that you are coming so that we can adequately
prepare for the anticipated number of attendees. We would also like to know in advance who will be performing so that we can
arrange the program and time slots. Contact Sol Zeller at solz1@optonline.net or (845) 354-4586 to make reservations.

The theme of this year's picnic is "Sing Out For Jean" and will be celebrating Jean Ritchie's miraculous full recovery from a
near fatal debilitating stroke that she suffered 6 months ago. Jean and her family have every intention of being with us for this
this celebratory event if their health permits. This picnic & singing party actually began many years ago at Jean's home in
Long Island and we are continuing the tradition as per her wishes. The event is being co-sponsored by the Pinewoods Folk
Music Society of New York.

Please bring a pot luck dish to share with 6 other people. We will provide the soft drinks, paper goods, and plastic ware.
Please note that this is an ALCOHOL FREE event and this policy will be strictly enforced. Please bring lawn chairs and/or
blankets as you would to any other folk festival. We will have a limited number of chairs available for those coming by
public transportation.

Because this is a large outdoor area we will have a professional sound system with Don Wade as our sound engineer. Last year
some of our senior performers had a problem being heard and at their suggestion the sound system has been added. In addition
to the main performance area there will be a separate area for jamming which will not have sound.

In order to raise money to pay for the sound system we will be having craft vendors exhibiting and selling their wares. If
you would like to be one of these vendors the price will be $20 per table and you have to bring your own table. Please
reserve in advance as the number of craft vendors will be limited. As was the case last year there will be no charge for
performers who wish to exhibit and sell their CDs and we will provide the table space for them to do so.

In the event of rain we will move the festivities indoors. There is plenty of free on-site parking at the ambulance corps
as well as at the high school directly across the street. All facilities are accessable to persons with disabilities.

For driving directions: Take the George Washington Bridge (upper level) to the Palisades Parkway north to Exit 11. At the
end of the exit ramp make a right on to New Hempstead Road going east. Follow New Hempstead Road all the way until it ends
at Main Street in downtown New City. Make a right on to Main St. and go 50 feet to the very next traffic light where you
make a left. This is the beginning of Congers Road. Follow Congers Road for approximately one mile and the New City
Volunteer Ambulance Corps will be on your left. For those of you with GPS enter the address 200 - Congers Road, New City,
NY 10956.

By public transportation take the Coach USA Red & Tan Lines bus from Port Authority Bus Terminal to New City. The bus stops
right at our front door. Tell the driver when you board that you will be getting off at the Ambulance Corps building.

Actually, Roger will be celebrating his 80th birthday the day of the picnic. Maybe you can surprise him with a group sing of Happy Birthday at the jam or from the stage? We can't be there (will be in Maine) but wish you all a wonderful time, and send our love to Roger!

Gathering Time (Stu Markus, Hillary Foxson Stoforos, & Glen Roethel) will be acting as our house band for the entire afternoon and will accompany any singer who does not have backup and desires it.

All performer slots are already taken with the last one going to Spook Handy 2 hours ago. We have 50 performers (or groups) on the schedule.

We are rapidly reaching our capacity point of 300 attendees.

It will be a fun afternoon for everyone.

We had a fantastic affair yesterday. Unfortunately Jean was not up to making the trip but George & Jon did show up and we presented a magnificent tribute to Jean. Thanks to Steve Suffet, Anne Price, Heather Wood and of course Jon Pickow. What would we do without these wonderful Pinewood folks? Don Wade was superb as the sound engineer which was not an easy job as he had to mic 35 separate acts in 6 hours.

The New City Patch covered this event in detail and the article contained a video as well as 11 photographs.
Here is the link for all to enjoy.
