I've been asked to let everyone know that the 2010 festival T-shirts are available to order until the end of October at a cost of £10 including postage.

I've also been told that the material recorded at the festival by Hermitage FM will be broadcast near Christmas in two 56 minute folk specials. We will endeavour to get it recorded so that anyone who can't tune in can also hear it

We would probably start it off as a pub session to see how it goes and if it proves really popular we would have the option of moving it upstairs. We would envisage a good mix of styles of song and music but would hope to keep it more folk based (preferably acoustic)and we would prefer it to be informal rather than going round the room if you know what I mean. Its just a thought at the moment as we haven't broached it with the pub yet, but will let you know what is happening. We couldn't make the Saturday session this time but if it was anything like last years it would have been brilliant.

On a different subject did anyone see Ripley Morris on the Michael Ball Show this afternoon? I know its sad but I have to do something while I'm ironing the enormous pile of t-shirts that came back from nearly two weeks away!

There is a brilliant upstairs room which Lefty showed me. It's really big and with great accoustics. When Graham, the landlord was alive he wasn't keen on the idea of using it for a folk session but Diane seems quite in favour of the idea so it may be worth a thought, though that does cut you off from the non-folkie regulars.

Hi everybody

We've only just got back from a short break in the Peak District followed by a brilliant weekend in North Yorkshire so haven't been anywhere near a computer since the festival. Quite a change really.

Brilliant time was had by all of us and we are already looking forward to next year.

Like MuddleC I didn't turn anyone without a wristband away from the loft as I thought they should be allowed into the museum part even if they weren't interested in the singing.

We had intended to join the survivor's session but by the time we had eaten and got down to the beer tent there wasn't enough room for all of us so we set up a splinter session in the Railway which went down really well. Just don't mention sausage rolls to Steve!

Speaking of the Railway, we were thinking we might approach the landlady to see if we can run something there, possibly a mixed song and music session, maybe every two months or so,in aid of the festival. Would anyone local be prepared to support us if we did? We already make fund raising collections at our club at Worthington on the second Monday of the month which were very much appreciated by the committee.

I don't think a couple of big names will hurt, especially as the ones already booked should bring in quite a few single event ticket buyers which will help to boost the funds. It also means that some of the 'lesser known' artists get the chance to play on the same bill and therefore get a bit more exposure. What we don't want is a bill full of 'big names' and no chance for up and coming artists to get a look in. From next year's advance posters it looks like next years prices will remain the same as this year until the end of May so keep an eye on the website for when bookings open.

Just starting to catch up with stuff at home since bringing Max down South from Whitby on Thursday, so apologies for the delay.

What a wonderful festival Moira is, thanks so much to Lynne, Ted, Dave and all the team who provided us with such a wonderful weekend. Last year was just fabulous, but this year even more so, despite the rain! Our apologies for any late-night disturbances fron our parties in the caravan, perhaps 'quiet' areas should be introduced in the site?

Many thanks to Moira for giving me the chance to sing again, I thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience and it gave me a chance to build on my experience of performing. And I think that's part of what makes Moira so very special, friends singing and playing to and with each other. Hearing Alie & Steve and Chris King is a rare opportunity to be cherished and there were other wonderful performers there too, too many to mention!

Having a headline artist or two can only be good for the festival and will attract more ticket sales, but as many have already mentioned here, please don't push the festival to grow too big! It would take away that 'magic' feeling and I certainly appreciated the fact that we weren't all packed like sardines in the campsite. I'm so glad that the Committee are seriously looking for feedback and I'm sure that they will take note of our concerns!!

Thanks to all who attended the MudGather, who made, brought and ate chocolate, shared songs and tunes and made it such a good Gather!! I must admit, I didn't realise that anyone had been turned away at the door and wish that hadn't happened. MudGathers aren't normally stewarded at other festivals, we usually take care of ourselves. When I was 'green jacket' at the loft I let anyone in... (even MSBLynne), but the 'tourists' generally turned around at the sound of singing... wristband checking at the Marquee and cedlidh was more stringent, but as pub sessions are free-for-all, I presume beer-tent venue is too?(so long as they have a drink in their hand?)

IMHO booking well known folk artists is the ideal way to attract more visitors to the festival but this will also push up the price of festival tickets.

What attracted me to Moira in the first place was 1) Small 2) Affordable 3) I knew it would be a FOLK festival because of MBS Lynne's involvement.

I don't know what others think, but if you want to keep the festival the same then you must continue to do the same. Nothing wrong with the odd tweek here and there, but booking big names comes under the heading of 'Let's grow this festival'.

I feel that I must temper my original comment of 'I'll be back next year', to ' I MAY be back next year'.

I do hope the changes aren't too dramatic.

Just a thought, the site and general facilities are quite limiting. Bigger numbers will be difficult to manage, I don't think you could get many more on the campsite without it becoming unpleasantly crowded.

Although we have a couple of well known folk artists next year the majority will be lesser known performers similar to this year and last. This will not change nor will it become a clone of the other festivals which sometimes all have the same few artists. We are very happy with the way the festival seems to be carving a niche for itself. Reading the comments above it seems that despite our complete lack of experience at organising anything like this we ain't doing too bad. Thanks to all that helped ... now we start all again !

Certainly at the start of the weekend the steward who was on at the Loft was told about letting people in to the museum. I wasn't aware that anyone was being turned away but I shall bring it up with the committee.

Tam, it's all very helpful...thank you. The problem with a portaloo near the bottom of the ramp late at night when there's no one around is a good point. We may possibly have a marquee on the football field to the right as you come down the ramp next year so a loo is an issue I guess.

Surely the Loft is part of the Museum, and anyone visiting the Museum is entitled to look round it without having to pay anything extra or get a wristband. Although events in the loft would still need to be stewarded from a Health & Safety/Insurance perspective, daytime sings should be non-ticket.

Couldn't you just instruct stewards that any "non-folkie" visitors during museum opening hours do not need wristbands, but they should be informed that there is an event going on and asked nicely to complete their visit as non-disruptively as possible.

Continuous running sessions might be hard on some who can't sit for long periods. I rather liked the breaks between sings for doing other events. I wouldn't sign up for a floor spot kind of thing. Too shy.

Portaloo near the bottom of ramp would be great but I would worry about yobs tipping it in the canal at night.

Don't want the Loft to be a spontaneous singaround since the pubs are available for that purpose. I have some ideas and plenty of people who have offered to run things so we'll see how it all goes for next year.

Someone else has mentioned the problem of tickets and the Mudgather. I will talk to the committee about it.

I'll also talk to the committee about the possibilities of drink in the Loft as it's a long way to go for a pint. The loo as well. Andy J said when he went that it was such a long way to go for a wee that he had two while he was there! We have permission to use the football field to the right as you come down the ramp from the Loft and if we have anything else on there next year it will be sense to have a loo too...that would sort it for the Loft. Again, I'll discuss it with the committee.

I think the chimney breast is an object up with which we will have to put. (Did you like the grammar there?) It's just a case of judicious siting of chairs I think.

It seems a shame that people were turned away from the singarounds. Could you maybe introduce a nominal fee/contribution, payable on the door, for those without wristbands who would appreciate the singaround and maybe even contribute by singing themselves.

Some large mirrors carefully positioned may help to reduce the 'chimney effect' in the room. Not sure how practical or costly that would be though.

I remember the great singarounds in the Mill at Miskin and as far as I can remember they weren't scheduled or formally run, they 'just happened' and developed their own life as the weekend evolved over the years. One thought may be to provide the building, advertise it widely as the place to meet for a singaround and just see what happens. A limited bar in the room and some loo facilities a bit closer may also add to the appeal.

I've not been to many Mudgathers before, but they've always been open to the public.

Sue last year when I had a singaround running over lunchtime, no one actually turned up, which is why I left gaps. Admittedly there were a lot more people around this year so it may be a more viable proposition. Perhaps if I just left shorter breaks between? Like a beer break and for change over of session leader? It's also been suggested that perhaps I should do some sort of mini-concerts, with feature spots of several songs from some people. Anyway, the Loft is available to use all the time so I shall certainly make more of it next year. It was ahrd to know what to expect this year, basing things on last, but the large increase in numbers means it's a quite different thing now.

Tim the accoustics in the flat are absolutely wonderful but we would never have fitted the number of people in there that were in a couple of the singarounds. You're right, the chimney breast is a pain. Not sure what we can do, though I think the way I had the chairs set out in the first place got more people in in front of it than the way it was set out on later occasions. I guess we could try having two smaller singarounds running simultaneously....not sure that's a brilliant idea though for a number of reasons.

Any more suggestions? (Polite ones only please!!)

The loft is a wee bit strangely shaped causing some to get lost behind the chimney stacks... plus often 'tourists' slogged up there to find us lot singing and then had to wander back down..
Lynne, have you tried the acoustics in Martha's flat?.. those arched ceilings sound wonderful... plus, as the grumpy cider cellar put paid to liquid refreshment... the kitchen in the flat could be used for making coffee/tea for participants (unless the cafe complains).... I know, singaround in the narrowboat, anchoring out of reach of shore... and sell duty free cider!

Lynne, I wonder whether the singarounds in the Loft could be a rolling programme rather than stopping and starting. Different MC's could take over and keep things running all through the day. My 'free time' usually seemed to coincide with when nothing was on in the Loft or it was due to end soon so I didn't do anywhere near as much singing as I would have liked.

Herbaceous Border had a good time too. Our two sessions in the Courtyard were very successful - especially 6.00-7.00pm on Saturday when we had about 40 dancers (from tots to grandads)and 18 in the band (including 4 small children.) Plus there were plenty more watching. Thanks for inviting us!
