Who needs chocolate when there is fine music and good beer?

Aha, Bounty Hound, sounds like you've not attended one of my MudGathers before!! During our singaround we generally 'do' chocolate (can't imagine why) and in the past people have made chocolate enrobed items for people to try. I recall MBS Lynne creating various tyes including celery & sweet chillies....

I can vouch for the chocolate last year! In fact I seem to remember it did interfere with the singing somewhat - or maybe the singing interfered with the chocolate!

Chocolate with celery & sweet chillies, the mind boggles. And doesn't it get messy singing with a mouth full of chocolate?

Hope your mudgather doesn't clash with our performance times, can't wait!

We brought chocolate with gin-soaked sloes last year..... I don't think we have any this year. Have to look for something else.

Funnily enough, just confirmed our times, The 'Hounds' are on the main stage Friday evening at 10.30pm and finishing the Sunday afternoon concert with our set starting at 4.15pm.

When and where is the mudgather? (Don't really do chocolate by the way, can I still come?)

John

You beat me Tim, I was going to say that the chillis were yours. The celery was definitely mine though, and strangely pleasant....

The Mudgather is 2.30 to 4.30 on Saturday in the Loft. If you don't do chocolate, start a new tradition and bring something else instead!

I haven't got gin-soaked sloes either, unfortunately, and there's not enough time to get strawberries properly vodka soaked and bring them.

Love Lynne

Chocolate eh?   Ah, now I know why you've had to advertise for a qualified first-aider!

Seriously tho', and on an unrelated Topic (no, not the chocolate bar), any news on those potential B&Bs you were looking into Lynne?

And is there any kind of indicative or tentative programme for the weekend yet? I couldn't find one on the website, tho' it may be my own ineptitude!...

No sloes at all? Ah well, I'll have to see if I can come up with something!!

Thanks for the times of the Mudgather Lynne, hopefully it won't clash with any singing I'm likely to do *grin*

Hope you'll be able to get along to the Gather for a while before your set, Bounty Hound. We don't force-feed chocolate, all the more for us!!!!

chocolate is the pass into mudgather? we are coming direct from caravanning Lake District so I cannot make my Almond Toffee Bark. Besides I am on a diet laying off white flour and sweets... which given the obscene things you people do to perfectly good chocolate seems quite lucky for me.

No worries VT, chocolate is not obligatory, I'm not even sure how that tradition got started *grin*

Everyone is welcome at a MudGather!! Thankfully we often have people turn up out of curiosity, especially when it's programmed in by Lovely Festival Organisers. Part of it is meeting up with MudCatters we might have met online but not in person but it's also a good opportunity to introduce singers and musicians to the MudCat. It's great to find new friends in this Folk Family of ours!!

Thanks for that. Its a bit clearer now what a mudgather is. I had the impression it was a bit of a closed society for chocoholic singers! I might pop in if I get a spare minute and I'm sure I can find something interesting to do with chocolate! Of course as the weather is going to be hot, hot, hot it could all get a bit messy!
It will be nice to put some faces (or even names) to the names.

Virginia, as far as I know nothing obscene has ever been done with chocolate at a Mudgather, but there's always a first time.....(That may bring a few people in!)

Moorley man, sorry, got some info but haven't had time to get down to the attractive cottage yet and they aren't on the local TI list. I'll send you what I have so far

See you there

Who is on when is now on the website. Two stages + ceilidhs at the Miner's Welfare(for second Saturday read Sunday). Virtually everyone is on twice so you shouldn't miss anyone. Presumably detailed programme with actual times will be available to purchase. Looking forward to it. www.moirafurnacefolkfestival.co.uk

Jillie the campsite is officially open from 12.00 Friday but there will be people there from Thursday afternoon so you may be able to get on then...but don't say I told you!

There will be a paper programme available to buy at the festival...just in the process of being printed now.

As well as what is on the programme on the website, I will be doing story sessions over the weekend [might even be a story walk especially for those who have asked if there is going to be one] and on Sunday Mike Gibson and I are running a Sing somewhere.

My Guru and Olga have both posted blue clickies, and under "Festival line up" and through no fault of their own , they have confused me. Both Clickies of the Official blurb, refer to Friday Saturday and (again) Saturday . Is SUNDAY any part of the proceedings ?

It would have been nice to have some sort of timetable / schedule , and places of appearance.

Hi Betsy

It looks like the gremlins got in. The first Saturday is Saturday and the second Saturday is Sunday.

I think that the reason for not publishing the full programme on line is that people wouldn't buy the paper programme, and as far as I am aware this is an important source of income as we would quite like to run the festival again next year.

Hope that helps

There are definitely t-shirts and if you go to the website you can order one in advance as there won't be very many for sale at the festival itself. We can't afford to be left with lots over. We have been looking at badges and key rings and such like...don't know what conclusion has been arrived at as I was in Sidmouth for the last meeting.

Olga is right and we do want to sell programmes to raise money, but also the lineup and times etc has really only just been fixed. At the end of the festival there are feedback forms so you could mention it on there and we will look at it for next year and see if there's any way round it.

We have decided not to go to Lake District. I am too knackered from Sidmouth. We will be coming to Moira Furnace and would like to camp on site Thursday night through Monday morning. Don't want to miss a minute.

Hoping to drag Crow Sister along, if she will answer my PM.

Going off now to order tshirts.

Main stage events start 7.30 Friday, Main stage and second stage start 12.30 on Saturday with a break from 5.00 to 7.30 then on until late. Friday and Saturday ceilidhs start at 8.00. Pub sessions from lunchtime Saturday lasting all day. Sunday main stage runs from 12.30 to around 5.00 with a survivors session in the evening. Singing sessions all weekend + Morris Dancing + lots more. There should be enough to keep everyone occupied all weekend. This list is based on what I was told a couple of weeks ago so it might have changed a bit.

Or you can pick them up when you get there if you've ordered them.

Mike Gibson (Cllr) is going to kick things off at 4.00 on Friday by singing from the top of the furnace. He did it last year and it was a great start so we thought it would be nice if it became a tradition. There should be sessions in both pubs Friday evening and there is a singaround in the Loft after Mike has sung as well as all the things Olga said.

I shall enquire about camping, though, as I said, the official opening of the campsite is Friday at 12.00. I'll get back to you on that.

Love Lynne

I have the following on good authority:
"No-one except the organising team will be able to go onto campsite until 10am Friday earliest. We will not be able to use Furnace buildings until Friday, there will be no toilet facilities, no portaloos, no water etc. if people arrive before this time, we have set ourselves a timetable for preparation and we cannot do our work if people arrive on site before the stipulated time."

That sounds pretty definite then Sooz! Maybe there's a campsite nearby that people could stay at on the Thursday night?
