Greetings from New York City:

Here we go again!

Anne Price and I met yesterday to start planning our third Awesome English Adventure. If all goes well, it will take place in May 2012, possibly extending into early June. Our first Awesome English Adventure, as some Mudcatters might recall, was in October 2008. Our second was last month, May 2010.

We will of course contact the folks who recently hosted us in the London area and then some. On our next trip we and our respective spouses hope to make it to Cornwall and/or Devon. So if there are any folk club organizers or house concert sponsors out that way who would consider booking us, please get in touch with me via e-mail by clicking here.

Our repertoires are particularly strong in traditional and contemporary North American folk music, including old-time country, railroad and hobo songs, cotton mill and coal mine songs, union songs, prison and chain gang songs, cowboy songs, outlaw ballads, love songs, sea music, ragtime, and blues. In addition to our general performances, Anne and I also give concerts and workshops that feature the songs of Woody Guthrie. While Anne and I perform many of our songs together, we also perform many separately, so your club or concert series would in essence be booking two guest performers for the price of one.

Anne and I would be happy to send you a press kit containing a sample CD of our recent live performances. Meanwhile please feel free to visit our respective websites:

www.anneprice.com
www.stevesuffet.com
www.soundclick.com/priceandsuffet
www.soundclick.com/woodyrediscovered

As I have said before, we still have our Oyster Cards, our UK mobile phones, and a small cache of Bank of England banknotes. There's not too much we can do with any of that stuff in the USA, so please help us out.

Thanks.

--- Steve Suffet

Sue, Hil, Richard, et al.,

Thanks. May 2012 is still pretty far from now, but our plans should be clearer in another 6 to 8 months.

Greetings again from New York City!

Our plans for Awesome English Adventure III are beginning to take shape. Anne Price and I will be returning to the UK with our respective spouses in May 2012. We hope to arrive on or about May 10 and then spend May 12-19 in Cornwall followed by a week in the London area, plus or minus a couple of days. We will try to arrange performances at some of the folk clubs that have previously hosted us, and we will ask one or two other clubs book as as well.

I can taste the Cornish pasties already!

Not after having gone through the trouble of having a stent put in my coronary artery! :-)

Also, let me mention our slightly revised plans. We will arrive in London on May 9, 2012. We will then spend May 12-19 in Cornwall as originally planned. Anne and her husband will most likely return to New York on Wednesday, May 23, although Marilyn and I may remain in London through the weekend.

Greetings:

Anne and I recently put together a demo track comprising short clips of seven songs performed live at Walthamstow Folk on May 9, 2010. Please click here to listen.

I can put you up in Cornwall if you like and you can use my house as a base. It is a 16th century farmhouse [old and rambling like me] on Bodmin Moor. pm me if you want to.

Greetings from a cold New York City!

As 2010, the year of Awesome English Adventure II, draws to a close, Anne Price and I can see how Awesome Adventure III is shaping up, eevn though it is a year and a half away. These are our current plans.

Wednesday, 9 May 2012: We and our spouses fly from JFK to LHR, arriving in the evening and checking into a hotel near Russell Square, London.

Thursday, 10 May 2012: We rest and recover, reactivate our UK mobile phones, purchase train tickets.

Friday, 11 May 2012: We have a performance tentatively lined up at a folk club in a London suburb. We won't give the name until the date has been confirmed, but it is a venue we have appeared at twice before.

Saturday, 12 May 2012: We are inquiring about a performance in London that evening. If we do not get it we will leave for Cornwall that morning, taking the train to Truro and renting a car when we get there. Otherwise we will leave Sunday morning. We have a house to stay in Cornwall for up to a week if we so desire, but we will also likely stay a day or two with Kathy.

Sunday-Friday, 13-18 May 2012: We will try to visit one or more folk clubs in Cornwall. We have made inquiries and sent sample CDs. If you are a club organizer and have not yet heard from us, please send me an e-mail at ssuffet@nyc.rr.com and we will send you a press kit and sample CD right away.

Saturday, 19 May 2012: We return to London. There is a chance that we will have a performance that evening if it did not already happen on 12 May.

Sunday, 20 May 2012: Anne and I will be performing at the FAB Club in Grays, Essex. This has already been confirmed.

Monday-Tuesday, 21-22 May 2012: We are making inquiries with folk clubs in and about London.

Wednesday, 23 May 2012: Anne flies back home to New York with her husband Wayne. My wife Marilyn and I might return to New York at the same time, or we might stay in the UK through the following weekend and return on Monday or Tuesday, 28 or 29 May.

Note to club organizers: We do not want to run afoul of the law, so we cannot accept any personal payment for our performances. However, any money that would have otherwise gone to use can be accepted as a donation to our home club, the New York Pinewoods Folk Music Club, which is a not-for-profit corporation. You are therefore welcome to publicize our performances as fraternal club-to-club visits.

Have a good holiday season and a happy and peaceful New Year, and we shall see you in 2012. I can taste the chicken masala already!

--- Steve Suffet

10th May - If you know the date you need to travel by train, don't wait until you get here before you purchase tickets it will cost you more. You can book national and international tickets here - http://www.raileurope.co.uk/default.aspx?tabid=39 - up to 12 weeks in advance and the earlier you book them the cheaper they usually are.

Ray,

Thanks. By the end of this coming year we should know whether we travel from London to Truro on May 12 or 13, 2012. That will give us more than enough time to purchase train tickets in advance. There is a British railway agent here in New York City, and they still issue handwritten tickets instead of computer generated ones.

I'm sorry that we won't be going up north this time. Maybe we will do so in 2014.

It may be less expensive if you call 011 44 845 755 0033 to book your tickets, rather than using an agent in the US. You can pick up the tickets at the station using your confirmation number (rather like e-tickets on a plane).

Sheila,

Thanks as well. I did not know about that alternative.

I generally check prices online - try
http://www.thetrainline.com/buytickets/

Unless things have changed recently, the online service won't accept US credit cards, so use it for research, then call the number I gave earlier - they are able to take US card payments.

I think thetrainline.com website takes you to the same place as the rail-europe link I posted.

Ray - the interface for the two sites is a bit different. I find the Trainline, easier to navigate.

Once again, if there are any folk club organizers [Yank spelling] in Cornwall who would consider booking Anne Price and myself, please click here to contact us by e-mail. If you provide a postal address, we will be happy to send you a demo CD of recent live performances, including several tracks recorded at Walthamstow Folk Club earlier this year.

Thanks.
