Subject: Shanty publicity From: Tug the Cox Date: 21 Jun 10 - 06:31 PM The press coverage of Shanty Crew 'Fisherman's Friends' has clearly paid off. The Falmouth festival this weekend, in lovely sunshine, saw goodish crowds for most acts. 100-150 or so..just what FF have had in past years. This year they were only able to make one show..4.00 on Sunday.....and the Events square ( main stage this year following licensing difficulties on Custom House Quay) was rammed solid....3,000 would be a conservative estimate. Well done FF, hopefully the interest being generated will help stimulate interest in shanty/wider folk music across the board |

Subject: RE: Shanty publicity From: Leadfingers Date: 22 Jun 10 - 08:11 AM Sadly , the whole idea of any form of Folk Music becoming 'popular' seems to be anathema to a number of 'purists' despite the spin off of Non Folkies discovering 'our' music ! The Spinners came ito a fair amout of abuse too , but regularly filled large halls , and converted a hell of a lot of people to 'folk'. I am sure F F will do just the same , and still get a lot of stick from the narrow minded few . |
