Big fan right here, Bobert! Got into him when he had a minor hit in the UK with 'Rex Bob Lowenstein', which I've been singing for years. Love his acoustic stuff. A fine and underrated songwriter.

Well, open mike, I ain't all that tech'ed up... I'm still trying to learn up copy & paste...

Yeah, "Rex Bob" is another great song... I thought about learning it up but my brainerator don't hold that much stuff anymore... Wierd... I can still do old long songs that I learned before the squash started to spoil but newer ones??? If they have as many words as "Rex Bob" I just take a pass...

BTW, I was listening to an old compilation tape I had made about 10 years ago last night and "Rat and the Snake" was on it... Reminded me alot of the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico...

I have been an admirer of his music since his vinyl days. I have all 5 of his CDs and they constitute a fine body of work. My favourite is the second album - 'Caught in the act of being ourselves'. He must be long overdue for a new album. As far as I am aware, there has been nothing from him since 2006's 'Atomic Candlestick'.

Mark Germino do we really want to expose him to the heathens who do not aspire to a good taste in music.
The man is a genius and all of you out there who have all his albums should feel very very lucky because even with the internet they are extremley difficult or pricey to attain.
Any fan out there who knows where to purchase Atomic Candlestick and others please post.
One wish for 2011 is that the man finally comes to the shores of the U.K. especailly Scotland and even better Glasgow to play a live set for all his fans.
Mention his name and people go who? but play a few bars of a certain song and wham oh you mean that guy. Crying shame really as his music is up there with all the greats.
So here is hoping not only for the U.K. but for all fellow fans across the Universe that the man fianlly picks up his Guitar and gets his bum round the globe to all his flock.i

Hello Sky Wallace,

Hope you are getting this here message and you are doing fine.
I actually would love to get a hand on Mark Germino's Atomic Candlestick record as well. Mark seems virtually untrackable on the internet, there's no website, no facebook presence and an old myspace page seems to be run by somebody else.

Would you be so kind and let me know how I can reach Mark or get his CD?

My mail address is gbaranowski@hotmail.com

Best regards,
Gerrit

For those fans who may have missed the news, Mark Germino has finally released a new album - 'Midnight Carnival'. My copy is in the mail but in the meantime I have been listening to it via Youtube:

Midnight Carnival

His voice is not quite as strong as previously, but the songs are great.

You can also listen to it and other albums via the 'discography' link on his website:

I'll kick this to the top one more time before it disappears. I am surprised that there has not been a single comment on a new album from one of America's finest singer/songwriters after a hiatus of over 2 decades if you don't count the 2006 'Atomic Candlestick' which was not officially released. The album has garnered enthusiastic reviews. Here is an example from 'Americana Highways':

Mark Germino, Midnight Carnival. The stop-time greatness of Mark Germino’s long-anticipated new album is a wondrous gift from the music cosmos. The North Carolina native is well-known as someone who marches to his own drumbeat, making albums when the spirit calls him and taking off for the woods when it doesn’t. MIDNIGHT CARNIVAL’s initial impetus arrived on his front door when several musicians showed up and convinced him it was time to head for the studio. Likely realizing a good idea when it comes calling, that’s exactly what he and his talented crew did: make a beeline for Southern Ground on Nashville’s Music Row and start working. These are songs that feel like they are meant to be, a heady mix of lyrical poetry and musical inspiration. Like almost all of Germino’s albums, there is a rollicking sound of unabashed frolic on some of the selections, and a deep-seated revelation of gravitas on others, and the way the two extremes bounce off each other is something that very few artists are capable of capturing. But this is someone who has always seen things unknown to others. Also an accomplished poet, the Southern man has skirted the boundaries of the obvious since the mid-Eighties when he first started recording, and has never really looked back. There isn’t a subject he is afraid of tackling, and if the music business ever dries up completely there’s a good chance Mark Germino could hang out a shingle as a counselor to those in need of help. For now, though, there is little doubt these fourteen songs will be discovered by all who are looking at modern life and seeking someone who is extending a hand for getting unscathed to the other side. Open 24 hours.

--Stewie.
