Subject: England v. Germany v. Sunday session From: Vic Smith Date: 24 Jun 10 - 09:33 AM Sunday 3pm - England vs. Germany vs. The monthly Sunday afternoon session in the bar of the Royal Oak in Lewes ....and the loser is.... the session. A television has been mounted behind the bar (fortunately, only for the duration of the World Cup tournament) and understandably, the landlady wants to show the match. Ah well! We have still got Keith Kendrick & Sylvia Needham upstairs in the clubroom tonight and Bayou Seco next Thursday. Whooppee! |
Subject: RE: England v. Germany v. Sunday session From: GUEST,Steamin' Willie Date: 24 Jun 10 - 12:31 PM And the winner is... Common sense. EENNNNGGGGEEERRRRLLLLAAAAAAANNNNNNNNDDDDDDDDD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You know, I have a new wide screen, makes cups of coffee, takes your dog for a walk, all singing all dancing telly. But you know what? Wouldn't dream of watching an England match on it. That's what pubs were made for, silly. |
Subject: RE: England v. Germany v. Sunday session From: mandotim Date: 24 Jun 10 - 01:23 PM The match finishes at 9.30pm or so. Most sessions I go to don't really get going until that time. Why not play the session after the match? |
Subject: RE: England v. Germany v. Sunday session From: Vic Smith Date: 24 Jun 10 - 01:40 PM AARGH! I didn't know that. When the landlady phoned and spoke to me about it, she said that the kick-off was 3.00 and I took her word for it. Now I find that the kick-off is at 7.30. Too late now! I've told all the regulars that it is cancelled. |
Subject: RE: England v. Germany v. Sunday session From: The Unicorn Man Date: 24 Jun 10 - 01:58 PM Don't worry kick off IS at 3 o clock. |

Subject: RE: England v. Germany v. Sunday session From: mandotim Date: 25 Jun 10 - 07:00 AM OOps...my mistake. I'll have to set the recorder, we're at Four Fools this weekend! |

Subject: RE: England v. Germany v. Sunday session From: John MacKenzie Date: 25 Jun 10 - 04:36 PM Oh dear, that's a hard choice. Tell you what, I'll dig my garden instead, or maybe I'll watch paint dry. This thread belongs below the line! |
Subject: RE: England v. Germany v. Sunday session From: Bainbo Date: 25 Jun 10 - 04:42 PM Some perspective, please. It lasts a month, once every four years. It's hardly an end to folk music as we know it. |
Subject: RE: England v. Germany v. Sunday session From: Rafflesbear Date: 25 Jun 10 - 05:34 PM Ironically there are probably more people singing folk songs in football grounds than outside. If you pass quickly by the obscene, check out this site Football Folk Songs examples Newcastle United - 'Blaydon Races' (see also Brighton) Birmingham City - 'Keep right on' Charlton Athletic - 'Endless Journey' Bristol City - 'Drink up thee Cider' & 'I am a Cider Drinker' Sheffield United - 'My Sheffield United' Doncaster Rovers, Reading and others - 'Molly Malone' Liverpool - 'Fields of Anfield Road' not great singing but definitely from the heart :-) |
Subject: RE: England v. Germany v. Sunday session From: Jack Campin Date: 28 Jun 10 - 05:24 AM The Sandy Bells session in Edinburgh went ahead exactly as usual (with the TVs on but the sound off). A few brief roars from the punters as Germany scored, but on the whole they were pretty quiet. |
Subject: RE: England v. Germany v. Sunday session From: Vic Smith Date: 28 Jun 10 - 08:17 AM Yes, well, Sandy Bells is a bit of an exception..... there has been a session going on there more of less continuously since the 1950s |
Subject: RE: England v. Germany v. Sunday session From: Richard Bridge Date: 28 Jun 10 - 08:42 AM Now that the morons are grieving can civilisation return to the UK please? |

Subject: RE: England v. Germany v. Sunday session From: GUEST,tad nathaniel Date: 28 Jun 10 - 11:48 AM Germany 4 (WOW 4) vs. England 1 (OK, maybe 2, but Rooney definitely 0) England, England, England, Why is it we need to sing 쳌gGod Save the Queen쳌h every 5 minutes. I mean, how much saving does the Queen need? Does anybody know? No? OK, let쳌fs ask Mick. He쳌fll tell us he couldn쳌ft get no satisfaction, because you can쳌ft always get what you want. Hey, Fabio, didn쳌ft I tell you to wake up and smell the bananas after the pre-World Cup Friendship Match with Japan, in which England did zilch to win the game? Hey, hey, hey, did I tell you or did I tell you? You weren쳌ft listening, were you? Shame, shame, shame. Aside from one lucky win in the first stage, England did zilch overall. I쳌fm surprised we even went to South Africa. Fabio Capello, good luck in your career change. |

Subject: RE: England v. Germany v. Sunday session From: bubblyrat Date: 29 Jun 10 - 05:32 AM I loved the story in yesterday's paper about how the Germans STILL believe the conspiracy theory about the Russian linesman who insisted on giving an England goal which they hotly (and probably justifiably) disputed ; apparently, when asked on his deathbed why he had done it, he just gasped " Stalingrad " !! |
