Subject: RE: Coope Boyes Simpson-live Radio2 From: Leadfingers Date: 29 Jun 10 - 07:44 PM Its a shame that the Inane Chatter stops me listening at all . and so little of the actual 'music' is worth even half an ear ! |
Subject: RE: Coope Boyes Simpson-live Radio2 From: Backwoodsman Date: 30 Jun 10 - 03:18 AM I'm with Leadfingers. Can't bear all the self-indulgent, meaningless drivel they blather, and the constant "Errmm, errumm, errrrmm" from that Radcliffe bozo. One of the worst presenters on radio. And most of what they play is shite. But CBS are superb. I'll grit my teeth and ignore the presenters' blather-bollocks just to hear them. |
Subject: RE: Coope Boyes Simpson-live Radio2 From: Geoff the Duck Date: 30 Jun 10 - 06:23 AM Link for the Listen Again - The_Radcliffe_and_Maconie_Show_29_06_2010. Personally I am a fan of Mark Radcliffe's shows. I first heard him on the radio near the start of the '90s doing a programme named "Out on Blue Six" and thought to myself "This bloke is either incredibly bad or incredibly good". It took me a few listens to decide he knew his music and was actually not the buffoon he appeared to be. He is actually one of the few people who play folk music on the BBC, and you are more likely to hear a "REAL" folk performer playing live (as in evidence on this thread) than on the Mike Harding "folk show" which seems to be mainly country and western. Anyway - hope those who can get the repeat enjoy the CB&S even if the bits in between are not their bag. Quack! GtD. |
Subject: RE: Coope Boyes Simpson-live Radio2 From: Backwoodsman Date: 30 Jun 10 - 07:07 AM I must be getting old! (THis from a 63-year-old who, in the past year has attended live concerts by, inter alia, Paul Carrack, Alison Moyet, Transatlantic Sessions Live (17 fabulous performers), Snow Patrol, Fleetwood Mac, and Muse - and thoroughly enjoyed them all). |
Subject: RE: Coope Boyes Simpson-live Radio2 From: GUEST,Ed Date: 30 Jun 10 - 07:12 AM I'm with Geoff on this. I'm a Mark Radcliffe fan too and really enjoy the show. Comments such as a couple of the above simply show small mindedness. Whatever happened to 'each to their own'? Anyway, for those who can't bear to listen through the shite, these are the CB&S timings for Geoff's 'Listen again' link: 0:37:40 - 0:41:33 CB&S chat (Contains some 'inane drivel' from CB&S, I'm afraid) 0:41:34 - 0:45:16 Song: 'Now is the Cool of the Day' 1:09:20 - 1:14:02 More CB&S chat 1:14:05 - 1:18:13 Song: 'Broken Hearted among the Pines' 1:44:20 - 1:48:27 Final bit of CB&S chat 1:48:28 - 1:51:08 Song: '10,000 Miles' |
Subject: RE: Coope Boyes Simpson-live Radio2 From: GUEST,Henryp Date: 30 Jun 10 - 07:13 AM CBS sang three songs and engaged in the discussion about traditional sweets. CBS were in great form and their performance is well worth seeking out - on the link, you can use the horizontal bar to look for the live sessions during the show. The Cool of the Day from their new CD As If, complete with Barry's rhythm track Broken Hearted Amongst the Pines, a rare performance Ten Thousand Miles, borrowed from Nic Jones. I also found a link to Judy Collins singing on the Simon Mayo's Drivetime on Monday evening, 28 June. She was on her way home from Glastonbury with her pianist and sang Diamonds and Rust and, for Radio 2's Great British Songbook, Who Knows where the Time Goes? |
Subject: RE: Coope Boyes Simpson-live Radio2 From: maeve Date: 30 Jun 10 - 07:33 AM That's our own Jean Ritchie's "Cool of the Day"! Stunning! I knew Coope Boyes Simpson have excellent taste in songs; this is an unexpected delight! maeve |
Subject: RE: Coope Boyes Simpson-live Radio2 From: GUEST,Ed Date: 30 Jun 10 - 07:38 AM maeve, From your comment 'our own Jean Ritchie' I assume that you are in the USA? Does that mean you can get BBC 'Listen Again' over there? Just curious. Thanks, Ed |
Subject: RE: Coope Boyes Simpson-live Radio2 From: maeve Date: 30 Jun 10 - 07:46 AM Hello, Ed. Yes, I live in Maine, USA, and have no trouble listening to BBC 'Listen Again'- for which I am thankful. Regards, maeve |
Subject: RE: Coope Boyes Simpson-live Radio2 From: Backwoodsman Date: 30 Jun 10 - 07:58 AM "Comments such as a couple of the above simply show small mindedness. Whatever happened to 'each to their own'?" So.... your "own" is fine, but mine is 'small mindedness', eh Ed? Whatever happened to 'each to their own'? |
Subject: RE: Coope Boyes Simpson-live Radio2 From: GUEST,Ed Date: 30 Jun 10 - 08:07 AM So.... your "own" is fine, but mine is 'small mindedness', eh Ed? I'm sorry, but I really don't understand what you mean. Could you please explain, as I have no intention of causing offense? Ed |
Subject: RE: Coope Boyes Simpson-live Radio2 From: Backwoodsman Date: 30 Jun 10 - 08:21 AM Do I really need to explain? |
Subject: RE: Coope Boyes Simpson-live Radio2 From: GUEST,Ed Date: 30 Jun 10 - 08:24 AM Do I really need to explain? If you wouldn't mind, please. Maybe I'm being really dim, but I honestly don't get your point. |

Subject: RE: Coope Boyes Simpson-live Radio2 From: Ed. Date: 30 Jun 10 - 09:38 AM I'm not trying to be deliberately dim, and I find the idea that I'm trolling in this thread somewhat inexplicable. For what it's worth, I've been a member many years longer that you, but if you'd care to explain your odd responses then please PM me. Thanks, Ed |
Subject: RE: Coope Boyes Simpson-live Radio2 From: *#1 PEASANT* Date: 30 Jun 10 - 10:07 AM As a listener to three to four BBC folk music programmes each week regularly let me tell you that if I hear The Cool of the Day one more time I will go mad. Someone really has to tell these presenters that they should play more tracks on a given CD. Maybe BBC should give them random assignments or somethign..... Yes I know that the programmes are regional and not heard by the same audience except via internet but the internet community is vast and believe me my purchasing of cds has vastly increased since listening regularly. Just a thought. Simpson's show folkwaves is great however it needs to be a bit more plugged in to facebook twitter etc. to really compete with other presenters of the same material. Just open up facebook while broadcasting and simply interact. Lots of benefits in that. Conrad |
