Subject: Ever hear of an Espana Classical Guitar? From: olddude Date: 01 Jul 10 - 05:13 PM Stopped into a Flea Market last weekend and bought a classical guitar called Espana made in Finland for $30... solid Mahogany back beautiful inlay work ... circa mid 60's .. great craftsman work overall from what I could see. The finish was all checkered as you normally see on an old guitar but everything else was fine ... put new strings on it , cleaned it up and wow has a wonderful sound ... now I wish I knew more about these guitars and the web seems to not tell much about them. It doesn't look at all like a cheaply made guitar that one normally find in flea markets from that era anybody else know anything about this company? Dan |

Subject: RE: Ever hear of an Espana Classical Guitar? From: Gillie Date: 02 Jul 10 - 04:31 AM I have a Bespania, made in Spain. The B and the M are in large underneath each other. This was my very first guitar bought for me by my parents in 1969/70. It has a superb sound and I still play it today. Cheers, Gillie |

Subject: RE: Ever hear of an Espana Classical Guitar? From: olddude Date: 02 Jul 10 - 11:33 AM Thanks Gillie and DADGBE I put another test out there, wanted to see what a Willie Nelson song would sound like. I didn't need another classical but this one is a dandy. I think I am going to give it to a catter who needs one I found out that this isn't the Bespania, I guess that was a different company ... One guy on the guitar forum said he bought one in 1966 for 250 dollars so that explains the craftsmanship on it across the borderline redo on new guitar Dan |

Subject: RE: Ever hear of an Espana Classical Guitar? From: GUEST Date: 24 Aug 10 - 04:05 AM I have an espana also made in Finland in the late 60's. It was second hand and has imperfections. It also has a beautiful sound and people have suggested to keep it as you will not get an equivalent quality guitar for the price it would sell for now which is around $200 for one in perfect condition. |

Subject: RE: Ever hear of an Espana Classical Guitar? From: GUEST,Whistle Stop Date: 24 Aug 10 - 11:06 AM The guitar I started learning on, back in 1968, was my father's Espana classical, which he probably picked up around 1960 or so. It wasn't a bad instrument; my older brother owns it now. |

Subject: RE: Ever hear of an Espana Classical Guitar? From: GUEST,GUEST,Johnbailey64 Date: 27 Aug 10 - 11:58 AM Just purchased an Espana SL-1 and the sound is incredible. I have 6 classical guitars and this one ranks up there with some of my higher dollar models. When I got it the strings were old and dead, but it still sounded great. Can't seem to find much information other than it was made in Finland in the 60's. I am keeping this one. |
