Subject: KINSFOLK hit the road again! From: Hovering Bob Date: 05 Jul 10 - 06:49 AM As some of you will know, thanks to the Internet search engines the UK folk trio 'Kinsfolk,' of which I was a member back in Bedford in 1970's, have re-established contact and have re-formed the group. An initial reunion concert went very well and we have now got some folk club bookings coming up. Since we were active in the latter days of the folk revival and are still 'doing' the same material it should stir some memories in the members of the audience who recall those days. It came as a surprise to discover that these days, you rarely hear the songs that were heard every week in folk clubs back then. We are having a lot of fun getting ready for these bookings and its a revelation to discover that the friendship we formed back then is as strong as ever despite the 33 years since we last met. (The group only folded because I was foolish enough to get a job and had to move my family down to Reading!) The dates already confirmed are:- 'Readifolk' - 8:00pm, Sunday 18th July 2010 The RISC Centre, 35-39 London Street, Reading, RG1 4PS and 'Herga Folk Club' - from 8:00pm, Monday 26th July 2010 Pinner Green Social Club, Rickmansworth Road, Pinner Middlesex HA5 3TJ We are hoping to get a few more 'feature spots' to add to this list. We'll then see where we go from there! It would be lovely to see any of our old friends again at these bookings, or anyone who would like a 'trip down memory lane,' to hear the sort of material we were doing back then. We used to do a lot of 'concerts'; but loved the folk club atmosphere and to get the audiences singing along with the many choruses that we used prefer. Hoping that many of you can get along and give us some support. All the best, BobH. |

Subject: RE: KINSFOLK hit the road again! From: Hovering Bob Date: 08 Jul 10 - 04:08 PM Thanks for the suggestion Mike, we may well try to get up to our old stomping ground. (I still have a list of names and addresses of the active 'folkies' active in the Bedford area from the mid 70's) BobH |
Subject: RE: KINSFOLK hit the road again! From: Hovering Bob Date: 18 Jul 10 - 06:28 AM Well, today's the day! I think we're ready for the gig at Readifolk tonight, we should be, we've had 33 years to get ready for it! Hope to see a few of my folkie friends from Reading and environs, should be fun! BobH |
Subject: RE: KINSFOLK hit the road again! From: Will Fly Date: 18 Jul 10 - 07:14 AM Good luck with the gig - break a leg! Did you ever play Hitchin Folk Club in the "old days"? I never did myself but many London friends used to swear by it - and I'm told it's in fine fettle and going as strong as ever. :-) |
Subject: RE: KINSFOLK hit the road again! From: Leadfingers Date: 18 Jul 10 - 08:04 AM Hitchin was the first folk club I ever joined - But that was the old Friday Club -Run bty Louis Killen in 1964 ! Joint membership with the Jazz Club |
Subject: RE: KINSFOLK hit the road again! From: Hovering Bob Date: 18 Jul 10 - 11:02 AM Not sure if we 'did' Hitchin club as a floor spot back then. I've been a few times in latter days - the club thrives and I think is accepted as one of the better ones! It's only just up the road from me now, in St. Albans, I ought to make the effort! BobH |
Subject: RE: KINSFOLK hit the road again! From: Herga Kitty Date: 18 Jul 10 - 01:42 PM You're probably on your way to Reading by now, but hope you've had a great evening if you're reading this when you get back! See you on the 26th... Kitty |
