WHEW! Next Sunday I think I will double up on my St. John's Wort before I turn on my computer. All kidding aside, I never in a million years thought I would get a reaction like this. I guess it was the word "New" that started it all. I had a lot of fun with it, but in all sincerity I would like to apologize to anyone I might have offended, (especially to Art and Allen) and would like to thank everyone else for their comments. As far as trying to use Mudcafe for commercial purposes, that was not my intent. My intent was to share the music that I thought other people like myself might enjoy. If anyone would like to send me their music I would be overjoyed to receive it. After all, isn't that how music becomes folk music? (Something tells me I'm in trouble with this last sentence) Once again, my apologies to all and thank you for hearing me out. Sincerly, Joel (a man)

Joel(y)------------------

Please read my post on the Art/Allen Thread............you didn't do a thing to offend a soul in the Village...and we hope you decide to stick around and hang out some with this bunch. If you decide we're all "certifiable"---believe me I understand, but we'd love to have you here.

The subject you brought to light comes up on a regular basis and the results are about what you'd expect. Don't worry about it. The best of Mudcat comes when we share an often heated debate without rancor and with courtesy for each other's thoughts.

Hellfire, we even debate clay possum pictures!

Spaw (also a man)

Not only do we debate possum posteriors, Joel, I'd even like to order one of your tapes. Tell me where to send my check and for how much. You can reply via the personal message thingy above.

Sandy (the folk fogey)

Now, if we can all shake hands and return to our respective corners...

Really, Joel, if you were to look at a past discussion such as The shortest definition of folk or The demise of Folk Music, Part II you would see a number of strong opinions, confused opinions, and just plain opinions on all of this. What a can of worms!

Anyway, despite all this ruckus, I wanted to say that if you would send me a message as to where to send the bucks, I would be happy to do so and would be happier still to hear your songs. If I can ever work out some tunes to my own songs, I'll send them to you. As it is, they are mostly just collections of words waiting to become songs.

Joel,

I would like to get one also. And I'll pay for theirs too. After all this, you deserve to get paid! And I'll buy a round for all at the bar right now.
I was sure you were a girl too by the way. Bill Staines does a song by Elkin Thomas that's called "Joely Girl"---it was a rather big hit for Marty Robbins too.

MOONUNIT (or whatever), can you hear that?? I do know, enjoy, sing and even listen to a ton of songwriters. So there...

Art

Joel,

You can't afford to give them all away. I want one too. I have been following this whole thing with interest. Sandy and Art are two of my heroe's in addtion to being good friends. I respect their opinions mightily. But I thought you did very well with yourself. This is exactly the type of discussion that I like and try to encourage. Strong opinions expressed with respect and open minds. Kudo's to you sir, for having a good opinion, a great sense of humor and a committment to the music. Please send me your address and the amount and I will look forward to hearing your music. Email it to me at mlane@accn.org.

And I am very happy you have graced our community. I share Catspaw's sentiment. I believe you would be a wonderful addition to our town. Please stay and contribute.

BTW, it is a good thing you are not a woman because Catspaw would try to kiss you with lips that blow up possum posteriors. LOL You will come to know about this as you settle in here.

And to the rest of my friends here, congrats on a wonderful discussion!!

All the best,

Mick

Please stay and join the Mudcat discussions, Joel. You have been baptized by fire...wood.

Can Max or Joe collect all these threads on the definition of folk and put them on the Quick Links menu?

Hmmmm. Good idea, Alice. How 'bout it you do it? It's a little tough to do it from the library here. What I'd suggest is that you take the most significant thread on the topic and post a message with links to related threads. Then post a link to the main thread on our links page - might be a good idea to start a new category, lime maybe "threads to remember."

By the way, folks, if you post links on the links page, please check them every once in a while to make sure they're still "live." Only you can deleted the links you've posted.

gee, well, OK, Joe. Maybe I should call it THREATS to remember. How about 'Threads About Definition of Folk'. I'll include the delightful folksong writing for dummies. Gee, I have my evening cut out for me now. Hope you are enjoying your travels, Joe.

Alice, This is the second time I've been in a combat zone. I guess I survived both. Although I think I created the second one through ignorance of the mechanics of the Mudcat system. I think I'm getting better at it now. I look forward to all future Mudcat discussions with you great people.

Like I said, and now even more so.........Glad to have you here.........and trust me, there will be another blighted bachanalia of bullshit on "folk" so be sure YOU are here for it along with all of us.

And the best, Joel, is... you're real!!! Well at least as real as the rest of us......well maybe that's as UNREAL as the rest of us.....................as opposed to Kat's "friend," Fast Eddie the elusive e-mailer.

Welcome to the Village Joel.

Spaw
